Decor Needed?

Is anyone doing little to nothing for decor in their church?I am getting married in a Greek church where there are alot of iconography in the front full and I'm not sure I need anything...

Re: Decor Needed?

  • the chapel I'm getting married in isn't uber ornate or anything, but I'm still not decorating - I find that most churches/chapels are quite beautiful on their own.
  • Our wedding is the week after Easter, so the church will already have lilies on the altar. If they didn't have that, we'd probably just get one or two floral arrangements for the altar and then leave them there as a gift to the congregation. We are not bringing in anything other than that. The church is lovely on its own, plus the point of the church is the sacrament, not the way it looks. It doesn't need pew bows or an aisle runner to enhance the ceremony (plus we don't care for those things anyway). And besides, additional decorations just mean more money and more cleanup. And if you can't re-use them at the reception then they're just wasted after the ceremony anyway. It's better for our budget and for our own peace of mind to just skip them.

  • I'm with futuremrsdawes. I really don't want to pay for limp bows or flowers to go on the end of each pew (that is, if we do a ceremony in a chapel). The only flowers I really care about are bouquets and bouts.

  • Orthodox churches are usually very ornate, so I don't think any decoration is needed at all!I'm getting married outside with no decor, because the scenery is pretty enough on its own. There is no need to over-decorate.

  • I did the flowers for my daughter's wedding, which was at our church. The churc is pretty, and we normally use two arrangements, one on each side of the altar, on pedestals. I had planned to do the two altar arrangements, some flowers hanging on the candelabra, and if there were leftover flowers, do a few pew clips, maybe on every 3rd row. I ended up doing only two large altar arrangements. I had leftover flowers, but ran out of time and energy. Actually, I think it ended up looking better, and much more would have been too distracting from the ceremony. and the wedding party.
  • greek churches are gorgeous inside. we did pew cones with flowers on every other pew and then we took them off the pews and used them at the head table and around the reception.
