Bridal Gown questions!!!!

I have a couple questions Ladies.

After you order your wedding dress and it comes in to the bridal shop, where is it stored until the time of alterations?/bustle?

The thing is one store told me i would get 20% off if I pick up the dress when it comes in and store it at my house until i bring it in at the time of alterations. The consultant told me that they do that because they wouldn't start on the alterations right away.

Do a lot of stores do that? Is it normal? What is the norm?

Payment Question: I know you put half down when u order it, but when is the other half due?, when the dress comes? or after the alterations are completed and you pick it up??

I had no choice but to take the dress home when it came in (that was also when I had to pay the 2nd 1/2 of the money).

I am getting married on 11/11 and I went for my first fitting last week. She said it would only take a few days so I had to lert her know when I was picking it up and she would start the work that week.

I got my dress from Hollywood Bridal. They stored it there for the few months from the time it came in until my final fitting. They  never even asked me if I wanted to take it home, but I'm sure I could have. If they offered 20% off to take it home, I definitely would though!
As far as payment, check with them. Every store has their own policies, just like everything else.

My dress came in 4mos early and is currently being stored @ the boutique until a few days being the wedding, after all the alterations are done.  My final payment is due when we pick it up that day.

I had my 1st fitting but I am unsure if they are starting ASAP on the aterations since I have about 8mos to go..

I ordered my dress in Feb, paid 50% deposit, it came in in July, I paid the balance, and it's staying at the bridal salon until days before the wedding (my first fitting was in early Sept).

Though if they offered me 20% off to take it home from July - Sept, I totally would have done it.

I paid 50% when I ordered, 50% within one week of it coming in.  They stored it at the store until alterations and going in for my second fitting next week!

Thanks everyone!! i didn't end up going with that store that gave the 20% for storing the dress at home. the other store I went with has the same system as everyone else, 50% down and the rest when the dress comes in.
