Hair & Makeup for BMs - Do I pay for it??

Hello ladies,

I am now looking into hair and makeup and have a few questions for those of you farther along in the wedding planning process.

I have heard that it is a nice gesture to provide BM's with hair and makeup services on the day of the wedding and although I TOTALLY agree, I am shocked at how much this will cost!

1. Did you provide hair and makeup for your BM's?
2. If so, how much did you pay?
3. If not, did they pay for their own or do it themselves?

1. Did you provide hair and makeup for your BM's? No. I did not require it, although most used the stylist that came to my mom's house.

2. If so, how much did you pay?  They paid $70 for each.

3. If not, did they pay for their own or do it themselves? Everyone got their hair done (my one sister had her hair blown out) and a few had make up done, others did their own.

Some brides do pay for their bm's hair or makeup for two reasons... As their gift or because they require that it be done.  If you're not requiring it, then I don't think that you need to pay for it.  Most girls will get their hair and makeup done anyway.

1. Did you provide hair and makeup for your BM's? Only for my MOH, I paid for her hair as part of her gift. Since she did all the work.  I did this quietly and just told her what I was doing. The others I had someone for them to use if they wanted to.
2. If so, how much did you pay? My MOH hair was $70
3. If not, did they pay for their own or do it themselves.  All of the girls got their hair done. One did her own makeup, and it looked fine.

I think it's about $80-85 each

I figured that they wouldn't have gotten their hair done otherwise except for the fact that were in my bridal party and they paid for everything at my bachelorette party that this was the least I could do.  Part of their gift.

I didn't pay for their hair and make-up. None of them got their make-up done and only one of them didn't get her hair done with us. When I ws in weddings, I also had to pay for my own hair and make-up, if I wanted it.

I am not paying for any of my girls hair or make-up.  I chose a hairstylist and make up aritst and sent them the prices and let them decide if they wanted to get it done by them or not.

Most girls are getting their hair done and a few are doing their own make-up.

3. If not, did they pay for their own or do it themselves? I told them what MU artist I was using if they were interested, and they both said they'd like to use her. They each went to a different salon to get their hair done. They wore whatever jewelry and black shoes that they wanted.

I know certain hair and makeup people require a number of heads/faces in order to book. Do I ask my BM's in advance if they are interested in getting their hair and makeup done (wedding is in June) or just book with the minimum?

I'm not requiring it to be get done so I'm not paying for it.  All have opted for hair and makeup and it will be about $80 each.

I paid for my girls hair. I wanted them to all get it done so I felt like I should cover it. Some of my girls were tight on money. As for makeup I gave them the pricing info of the person I was using and left it up to them. My makeup artist offered to just do eyes which included lashes for $30. I had a couple of girls who at first weren't going to get their makeup done decide to just get their eyes done when they found out it was an option.

I told my BMs who I was using for hair/makeup and left it up to them to decide if they wanted it done professionally or wanted to do it on their own.  I did not pay for it - however, I think that if you tell them they have to, then you should pay for it.  I personally am not a believer in bridesmaid "clones" so I didn't think it would matter how they did their hair/makeup as long as they were comfortable - they all also wore whatever jewelry/shoes they wanted and had different pink dresses.  I asked them all if they wanted to get their makeup done before booking my makeup artist to ensure I could meet her minimum.  I had 6 BMs - only 2 of my BMs had their makeup done and they all chose to get their hair done by my guy.  All their makeup looked great, even those who did it themselves.

</div><div>I'm paying for my BM's to get their hair done - mainly b/c I know they would have gotten it done regardless and I wanted to do something nice for them. I am not making them have their hair/makeup done but I know all are choosing to use whomever I booked. </div>

I asked my BMs in advance if they would be interested, to see if I would even hit the minimum. I knew I'd cover it as a part of their gift and casually said not to worry about it when one of them asked me how much. It added up fast and I adjusted the plan a bit to bring down the cost- we went to the salon for hair versus have the hair stylists come to us. I only had 4 BMs so that made a difference too.

If you are going to require them to get their hair and makeup done, then you should definitely pay for it. Otherwise, you definitely don't have to, and it wouldn't be expected.

I did not require my girls to get their hair/makeup done, therefore I didn't pay.
Two of them went to their own salon and had their hair done, and I believe they did their own makeup. Two of them had their hair and makeup done by the same girls that did mine. Their hair was $85 each and their makeup was $70 each. (My hair was $150 and my makeup was $100).

I am leaving it up to the girls if them want to get it done and I am going to pay part of it. 

I think mine is 200 and theirs will be 100 for both hair and makeup..about 50 bucks for each girl out of pocket

I am treating my girls to hair and make up (6 girls, 2 flower girls) but I think it is entirely up to the bride. I have been in weddings when the bride paid and weddings where I paid. Go with whatever you are comfortable with. Usually a bridesmaid is 70-85 from my experience.

</div><div>THIS! I'm not requiring anyone to get their hair done but I know all of my girls planned on getting it done anyway so I wanted to cover the cost as well. Having a big BP is definitely an expense though - but a good one :)</div>
