Hair/Makeup- How far in advance for trial and booking?

Hi Girls...

My wedding is in August and I wanted to get an idea of when I should start looking for a hair and makeup person. How far in advance did you start doing trials?

I have also heard that some people will do their makeup trial the day they get their engagement pics done so they can see how it shows up in pics...Is this a good idea?

Did anyone get extensions in their hair to get the long curls effect?

Thanks so much!

I would go as far in advance as you can.  I was one of those people that didn't worry about make-up and then scrambled to find someone.  I actually found the girl who did my make-up on TK recommened by another Knottie.  I didn't do E-pics but I did B-pics and did a trial the same day.  It was great to see how the make-up came out in pictures, so I totally recommend doing them the day you get your e-pics done.  Didn't get extensions so I can't help there, sorry.

I'm getting married in April and I booked my hair and makeup April 2010. I went for a trial back in June. I knew from the beginning I wanted to use Michelle Lo Conte so I didn't stress over the trial.

If you have someone in mind that you want to use it's better to book them farther in advance than later.

Lots of people say to schedule your trial on the day of your e-shoot. But realistically, it's hard to coordinate.

And if the MUA you're trying out sets her makeup gun on "w h o r e," well, you wouldn't want that in your photos!

I recommend running errands after your MUA trial, then watching sad movies. I think seeing how it lasts through the day (and through tears) is a better gauge of quality work.  Have some snapshots taken with high flash  - those are the photos where a bad makeup job will be more evident.

dont get your trial for engagement pictures, if you hate it, you'll hate your pictures too.

It's crazy how fast makeup and hair people book up.
If you have someone in mind I would inquire when you know who you like.
I booked Jeanine Mangan for my makeup almost a year in advance.
For hair, thank godness I started looking early because I didn't like my first hairdresser so I was starting to panic when I was having a hard time finding another person. I used patti delvecchio for hair as she was amazing.

I had my trial and booked my makeup artist (Jillyan Scarpa) a year in advance.  For hair I booked Michelle LoConte based on all the positive rec's.  However, she won't do a trial until 6 months out.  If your not happy she will give you your deposit back.
