Renters/homeowners insurance.  Mine was $20 for every $1000 appraised.

Yes I got it appraised at a jewelry store then took the appraisal to my insurance company (I had renters insurance at the time but now I have homeowners) I bought a separate policy for the rings (added the wedding band when we bought that) because if something happened to the ring then the whole homeowners policy would go up. FYI most homeowners policies have some jewelry protection but its usually only about $2500. (some are more or less but thats the norm)

I have mine insured through Jewelers Mutual as well. We had it appraised, submitted the appraisal, the GIA certificate and several photos of the ring. They have a wonderful reputation and make the process very easy :o) In terms of cost, that all depends on your ring. The more expensive the ring, the more it will run you. The best thing to do would be to go to their website, pop in your rings specs. and get an estimated cost. It also varies depending on the area you live in.

I have my e-ring insured through Jewler's Mutual. It costs about 200 per year.  I agree with PP some home owners policies only cover up to a certain amount and if your ring appraises for more it needs it's own policy.

The amount depends on what your fiancee spent on your ring/what its worth. I insured it on my homeowners insurance.

Mine was covered under the renters before I even had it (I lose everything)... It's a pretty easy process from what I understand... Get it done ASAP!

A friend of mine had her insured under her car insurance policy, if you don't have renters or homeowners insurance and you want to put it under something existing.

It's definitely something to look into and pretty important if your ring is worth a lot of money. I would suggest reading up on it here: http://www.adiamor.com/educationcenter/insurance.aspx

The Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is an especially good one because they specialize in just jewelry.

You can also insure the ring under your homeowners insurance, but not everyone has that or owns a home.

    Good luck!
