I'm answering my own, I did ONE poem, on our RD invites, well because it was cute and yes cheesy, but it was on a think that most guests didn't see so I was okay with it :)

I think poems are cute but when you get caught up in trying to make a rhyme for every little thing, there's a problem.

The only poetry I'm likely to use is Shakespeare, and FI is already reminding me to not use it everywhere.

Actually, when I posted a lot there wasn't the option of a poll, so I never posted it because people are scared to tell their feeling (whether to poems or against) so don't get all AW on yourself, yes your post did make me think of it, but after a year on the boards, its been meant to be post...

You mean "posted." And that's funny... ever since joining TK I've noticed that there hasn't yet been an instance in which people were scared to say their true feelings on this board.

And please... I'm the last person here who would be an AW. Based on some of the comments I've noticed from you... pot calling the kettle black perhaps? Just saying...

I think it is a fair poll. It was of course precipitated by the comments earlier, but people come on here all the time and ask for "cute poems" for their weddings. It isn't unique to anyone today. Some people like them (as is clear from the number of posts asking for them), some people don't.

I tend to be with Melissa on this one re: vomiting. Also, I actually didn't have any issue with the one posted earlier today, but so many of these poems are insults to the English language. And I find it odd (and maybe insulting to the guests) that brides will put poems with the bathroom baskets to explain what guests should and should not do with the aspirin and deodorant. Like if guests need help with that, maybe it wouldn't hurt to put the whole "if you sprinkle/when you tinkle/please be a sweetie/and wipe your seatie" in the stalls?

I must agree 100%...don't think everything is about you (or rather) anyone else, personally yes i thing poems on everything are cheesy, but, I did a poem on my RD invite, so obviosly if you knew me, you would know I am not totally against them...so step back and read before you call the kettle black..

and yes, I am a sort of AW, but it was worse before, and I learned my lesson....

Cheryl - Thank you for your honesty about the fact that you used a poem on your RD invite. You're right, I don't know you (I believe we established this when I was flamed re: my feelings about bathroom baskets), which is why it seemed (whether intentional or not) that you were attacking my decision to use a poem as part of my STD's. I really do appreciate that you admit that you used one on your RD invite... so I just can't understand why you felt the need to make the comment (it was slightly snarky) on my post from yesterday. No big deal though... like I said, I really appreciate the fact that you admit you used a poem, too. And, for the record, aside from the STD's and the "sprinkle/tinkle" poem that I hope to place in the bathrooms at my reception venue, there will be no other poems associated with my wedding.

PS - TOTALLY kidding about the "sprinkle/tinkle" poem!

    Oh, and Peaches,

I don't "know" you on here, or otherwise, but this type of poll (regarding poetry on inanimate objects at weddings) is posted often--with or without your posts, so please, do not take it to heart. It's common.

Peaches, a lot of times someone will say something and it inspires someone else to do a poll about it, get an idea of more people's feelings. It's more like, "Since we're talking XYZ...." It's not meant to be a dig at you. I think you're taking it too personally. I didn't even notice that there was a poem post earlier.

Melissa - I completely understand that. I only said what I said on this thread, because it was Cheryl who made a seemingly snarky (though I could be wrong) comment on my poem thread about why brides feel the need to use poems on wedding-related things and then she went on to post this poll. On my poem thread I never asked for people's opinions about poems, I just needed help searching for one to use in Spanish, so between the seemingly snarky comment on my thread combined with this poll, I just felt the need to comment... the same way everyone else make comments. Honestly, I didn't take it to heart at all.

The other thing you'll learn is that people won't just comment on the parts of your post that you want them to. Ask where to buy a tiara and guaranteed at least one person will say tiaras suck, and another person will agree with them. =)

But can we talk about that? I feel like that is a very valid question. As I said above, I found your poem entirely unoffensive (as it was short and decently written, particularly compared to wedding poems). And it seems like you're planning on being fairly restrained on this one. But why do people who do through life not talking in rhyme think "Hey! I'm getting married! I bet my guests want to spend half their nights reading poems about how to use the bathroom basket, and why to take a pair of flip-flops, and how to fill up bags of candies. Now where can I find some cute poems?" Just seems odd.
