Bakery Recommendations

Hi girls... Our engagement party is coming up at Il Tulipano and they offered us a cake or dessert platters.  The person we met with let us know that we could choose the dessert platters and bring in our own cake at no charge :) We are having about 35 people and today I was quoted almost $700 for a cake!  Any recommendations for local bakeries with fantastic cakes that aren't $700, haha? Thanks :)

I got MH's birthday cake from The Stuffed Cupcake in Nutley, and that was really tasty. They will make a regular cake from any of their stuffed cupcake flavors, and they do stacked cakes (wedding-style) cakes as well.

Pink Cake Box in Denville is the best but will probably be a little pricey...I can't imagine $700 dollars though for 35 people!  They'll probably come in at around $300-$400 for that amount of people.  Also, I've heard good things about the Swiss Chalet in Morristown, but I don't have any personal experience with their cakes.  Good luck!

I second Stuffed Cupcake in Nutley (The Petite Cafe). Got my mom's birthday cake for a surprise party and they did an amazing job. Cake was for 25 people and could have served more. Everyone loved it. A friend of mine used them for her engagement party and loved them also.
Go in and try a cupcake or two they have amazing flavors.

Not sure how fancy you wanted to go but my friend got her e-party cake at Costco and it was surprisingly one of the best cakes I ever had and super cheap. But if your looking for a custom cake then thats not for you.

Theresa-I've heard good things about costco sheet cakes; thanks for the info.  We wanted to go custon but having something written on a sheet cake could totally work!  Thanks :)

Kristina - if you do go with Pink Cake Box they will set up a consultation and you get to try a bunch of their cake flavors with their frosting flavors...delish!!  The consultation was $30 dollars but will go towards the cost of your cake.  We went with the pink velvet cake (like red velvet but pink!) with 2 layers of cookies and cream frosting and 2 layers of vanilla buttercream frosting!  Soooo yummy!

I would recommend either Monteleone's in Jersey City or Mazur's in Lyndhurst.  They both have great tasting cake, as well as good prices.  Good luck!

Le Petit Gateau in Park Ridge is where we're getting our cake (and a groom's cake) from. The tasting was fabulous - we were about to stab each other's hands with the forks to get at the last bites lol.....and I found them to be really accommodating, pleasant to work with, and reasonably priced.

Le Petit in Park Ridge is really good, that is who we are going to use for a groom's cake. I also hear a lot of good things about Palermo's Bakery.
