NWR - have you had Lasik?

I'm scheduled for Lasik next Thursday and am terrified.  Has anyone had Lasik?  Do you love it?  Any dry eye or halos afterwards?  TIA!

hey! i got lasik in december and its the best decision i've ever made! however, i do still have dry eyes- when they say you have to put lubricating drops in your eyes every 20 minutes, they mean it!!! i was scared too at first but the process is painless, it's just uncomfortable because they use these little suction things to keep your eyes in place. where are you getting it done?

Giaspo - I had Lasik on 9/13/01 (I'll never, ever forget the date!)  10 years later it is still the best decision I ever made.  My vision continues to be 20/20 (and I was -11 in one eye and -12 in the other with astigmatism in both eyes).  The dry eye problem goes away.  Occasionally I need lubricating drops but I really only find that happens when I am very tired or have been using the computer for a long time without a break.  I used to have terrible night vision with my contacts, that's not a problem anymore.

You won't regret it.  When the procedure is over - it literally takes about 5 minutes and you won't feel a thing - and you can see without glasses or contacts, it is the most amazing feeling.  Good luck!  :-)

I had Lasik -- best thing I've ever done for myself but I do still get halos at night. It's manageable though.

I had it after wearing glasses for 6 years and contacts for 12 years and, as others have said, it was the best decision I ever made.

I do get bad halos at night, but I've been getting them since I had a really bad eye injury in high school (I was told I would never see out of one of my eyes again when it happened) so it's not a huge deal to me.  If you do get halos while driving, just turn on the interior lights of your car for a bit and you'll be fine.

Many people told me ahead of time that the surgery was painless but the recovery sucked because they felt like they had sand paper in their eyes.  I actually experienced the complete opposite... the recovery (if you could even call it that) was completely painless, but the surgery itself hurt like a b*tch - although it was only a few minutes in each eye so it was bearable.

Thanks everyone. I am sad to report that I have the worst headcold right now and am not sure if they'll do the procedure. If it gets postponed I'll be disappointed but that's OK. Will keep you posted. Thanks for sharing your stories!

In 2000 I had Lasik with Theodore Perl of Corneal Associates of NJ in Livingston.  He doesn't have much of a bedside manner, but he's the most experienced Lasik surgeon I could find.  I was nervous and he prescribed a Valium for me.  The procedure is not at all painful and he kindly talked me through it.  The results were nothing short of miraculous.  I went from severe myopia to 20/20 vision.  Only drawback was the dry eyes that plagued me for over 6 months post-surgery, but that can be alieveated with drops or eye ointment.

Good luck and try to find a patient of the surgeon you choose who has similar eye problems.  A good, honest surgeon will have no problem hooking you up with a similar patient to share his/her Lasik story.
