How far way is your Hotel?

I am trying to book my block of rooms for OOT guests and having a problem finding a hotel I am comfortable with. How far away (miles and/or minutes) is your hotel from your reception?

We will be having transportation/ shuttle to and from but I am not sure if 30 minutes is too long?

Any suggestions.... TIA!

Mine is like 15 minutes.  Its close in miles but its by high traffic roads. Where is your reception and what hotels have you looked at? Maybe we can help.

Our hotel was about a 15-20 minute shuttle ride away.

I wasn't thrilled with that, but there didn't seem to be any closer hotels to our hall so that's the best we could do.

We set up two blocks. One that is right next door to our venue and one that is 10 mins away. Different prices ranges since we will have people in for the week, not just the night.

Ours is about 10 minutes away.

I have been to weddings where the shuttle ride was 20 minutes or so and it wasn't a huge deal for me, as a guest.

My reception is being held at the Primavera Regency in Stirling, NJ. I have looked at ALL the hotels in Basking Ridge, but wasn't impressed. We are thinking of a hotel called Dolce, in Basking Ridge but they have about 4 other wedding hotel blocks booked there for our wedding (9.10.11). I have officially expanded my search but I am getting nervous that it's going to take too long. I wouldn't mind it, if I was getting shuttled to and from but I feel that I should be able to find something closer than 30 minutes.

Thank you for all your help!!

Yeah, I checked both of those places (Courtyard Marriott and Somerset Hills). Maybe I'll have to go back and see them again. Thanks!

You could set up two blocks ... one close by, and another thats further but that you feel is nicer.

As a wedding guest, I'm not horribly picky about the hotel, as long as it's clean and isn't in a crappy area and doesn't cost a fortune. People will probably only be sleeping there one night, so I wouldn't break your neck trying to find the perfect place.

Why were you "not impressed" with some of the hotels you saw? Price too high, dirty-looking, poor customer service? Or were they just not as nice as you were hoping? I absolutely understand not wanting to put your guests up in a truly crappy place, but on the other hand remember that they probably won't be as critical about the hotel as you will be. (And I don't mean "critical" in a nasty way, I just mean that you as the hostess are probably going to be analyzing it more than they will.)

A friend of mine had her hotel block at the Dolce and had nothing but problems with them.  They said they had shuttles for them but then didn't run after a certain time so they had to get their own shuttles.  They were giving problems to people booking rooms, they messed up when giving the OOT bags out and alot of people didn't get a bag, they messed up on giving guests vouchers for breakfast the next day.  Just an all around mess.

Our block is 30 min away, a lot of our friends/family are from Western, PA so we blocked rooms on the beach for them.  I am going to have a block about 10 min away, but won't be providing shuttle transportation for those rooms.

No, I completely understand. I think tpo an extent I am being critical and over analyzing them. You're right - for most guests, it's a place to lay their head. It's just that my FI's whole family is coming from out-of-state and I would prefer to suggest the best hotel for the best value that I can find. One had mold in the bathroom, which was gross. One had an extremely small restaurant and wanted to charge $500 just to set up a banquet room for breakfast. Another was way too much money. Others wanted a fee to hand out OOT bags (which I now hear is somewhat normal).

Somerset Hills Hotel. Actually 2 of the 4 hotel rooms that we were shown had mold. 1 had a ripped/stained chair. One of the bathrooms was not only moldy but water had leaked on the vanity and it peeling. Lights were out in the hallway. To top it off, my vendor recommended them. But I know MANY people that had room blocks there and they said the rooms were fine. The hotel is under new management now so hopefully they will be better in the future. And they had an awesome bar, so I was pretty disappointed.
