NWR: NYC Restaurants

We are going into the city this weekend with a few couples to see a show. I don't go into the city often and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for some inexpensive restaurants/bars. The show is at the garden and we are also stopping by to see the tree so anything in those areas or near by would be great.

I was going to recommend Becco but that might be slightly too far uptown. They have great all you can eat pasta deals and the quality is really good- and all their wine is $25/bottle. I'm a huge fan of Brother Jimmy's as well if you want something more casual.

Carmine's is always a great place to go to with a large group of people.  Very inexpensive and great food.

I recommend ViceVersa at 325 51st Street. It's a few streets up and two avenues over from Rockefeller Center. The place has a nice swanky vibe to it. Great food. The link is below.

I also recommend Becco as well. Very good food there and prices are pretty good for NYC standards.

Having worked near the tree for years, I can tell you that it is not a great area for restaurants.  Nor is the area near the Garden.  Particularly on December weekends when ten million tourist/suburbanites are in the city (so even the touristy places are packed).

Vezzo (Lexington in the 30s) is good.  Bar pizza (like Star Tavern, kind of) and Italian).  Pio Pio (2 locations -- East 34th/44th and 10th) is amazing rotisserie chicken.

Shake Shack and Bill's Bar & Burger just opened in Rock Center, but I would imagine they'll be packed beyond belief over the weekend.

Would you consider heading downtown?  I have lots of suggestions near the PATH stations further south.  And what kind of food do you want?
