David's Bridal dilemma part 2... the plot thickens...

I recently posted saying I found a dress that I loved @ David's Bridal, and they told me if I purchased it in the next 2 days I would get it at the sale price of $100 off.  Well, I flat out said I can't rush this decision but I was definitely interested.
So today (the deadline they gave me to buy the dress) I get a call from the manager stating that the dress I was interested in is being discontinued Wednesday, and if I order it tomorrow or Wednesday, I can assure it is ordered in the correct size AND she will offer me the discontinued price which is almost HALF off the original price.  I got all excited and made an appointment tomorrow to try it on again, but some of my friends have got me thinking this is a sketchy situation.  My thought is:  I LOVE this dress, I hadn't really made plans to look anywhere else (btw my wedding is in April, so the clock is ticking), and it's actually going to be in my budget with this price drop.  One friend suggested I call two other DB's, which I did, and neither of them said the dress was discontinued (my thinking is maybe they can't offer that info out & the manager where I went was doing me a favor... but I have been known to be naive).  Then my friend says well maybe you wouldn't be getting a new dress at that price, maybe it would be a sample or something.....
Basically I am worried that I am being naive.  But at the same time - with a price drop so steep - who cares why or where the discount comes from!  Would anyone else be skeptical?  I also feel like DB is a large enough chain that they (I hope) wouldn't be as likely to cheat anyone as a smaller boutique who may go out of business, etc........
Thank you in advance... I'm trying hard not to turn Bridezila here... Wink

Hmmm a dress gets discontinued by the designer so not sure why other stores would not be able to tell you. . . when the dress is discontinued they have to remove it from the floor or put it on a sample rack; thats what I was told by my bridal shop (not a David's).

Definitely sounds sketchy,  but if you truly feel it's THE dress I would go for it. They are likely just trying to get rid of stock so as long as what you get is in good condition, I wouldn't stress too much!

I also agree though. . . . if its your dress you know it, so if your getting this great deal then grab it and dont look back or second guess it or look at other dresses! LOL

Honestly, it does sound sketchy to me, they're probably just looking for a sale.  But if you seriously love the dress and nothing is wrong with it, then I say go for it since you'll get a good deal.

I've heard DB uses the "discontinued" act to get you to buy dresses.  I heard this after I bought my dress - the first one I tried on, but loved - of which I was told was "discontinued", and they had only one in my size.

I'm not sure I was duped, though.  When I went in with pics from the website of the dresses I wanted to try on - I didn't let on that "the dress" was my #1 choice out of the 5 or so on the list.  They told me right away they didn't have anymore of "the dress" but I didn't let on it was the dress I really wanted.  I was trying on other dresses from my list when the sales lady came in with "the dress" - in my size!  She happened to find it.

It was "all they had", it was 50% off, it was awesome, I bought it then and there.  A few weeks later I couldn't bring up the dress on the DB website - which leads me to believe it was actually discontinued.

But since other DB say it's not discontinued - I would say that's fishy.

It sounds fishy, but at the end of the day if it's "THE DRESS" I say go for it.

When I was shopping for my dress I was told many Maggie Sottero's were being discontinued within the next few weeks...as soon as I put on my dress I knew I loved it and I ordered it right away, especially since I didn't want to run the risk of it being discontinued before I placed my order. Sure enough, my dress was discontinued last week and I am SO thankful I ordered it. If you love the dress, I say go for it! Especially sinec you are able to get an even bigger discount...

It does sound a bit sketchy. But if you know it's the one then I would buy it. It sounds like a good deal. Just make sure if it is a sample dress that it is good condition. I know my dress is a sample but I was okay because there were no blemishes, rips, tears, anything missing from it. Also, stop looking at dresses after this as it will just confuse you. GL!

You love the dress. It's 50% off. Get it. I got my dress and my BM dresses from Priscilla of Boston, which is the same company as DB, and the color of my BM dresses was being discontinued. They were not supposed to say anything, but they called me and told me that they needed everyone's deposits in order to put the order through and ensure I got the color I wanted. Had they not done so, I would have been extremely disappointed. The day they said the color was being discontinued, it was removed from the website. I'd take their word for it. You're getting 50% off!

If you can go to one more place and try on other dresses before going back to DB just to make sure, do it. But I think the only reason you're hesitating is that you think the situation is sketchy. Make sure you are getting a new dress, and you will be fine.

its not unusual for dresses to be discontiued often at DB, they have a new line every few months and they need to make room for it.  That's why those dresses go on sale for 50% off in the first place.  Also, they order them for you, they don't give them to you off the rack (unless its the last one and they can't order it).  When i was getting my dress, I asked them if it would be new and they said of course, they don't give out samples unless they're the last one and no chance of ordering.

I say go for it!  You obvs. care bout this dress, and if it's in your price range, it seems like a great deal :)

I'd say go try it on one more time. If you still love it, I'd say buy it. 50% off is a great deal!
