Register for Cash - thoughts?

Check this out - a registry for CASH gifts, which can be put towards specific items.  Basically, the items are listed and people can make a contribution of $$.

After last week's long thread on the gifts/cash/no gifts topic, I thought it would be interesting to toss this out there.  Here's the link:

Has anyone seen or used this before?  What do you think?

I think this is tacky.  Everyone likes money, everyone wants money.  You don't have to advertise that you want money.

Can't open the link now, but is this is like a honeymoon registry, but for (theoretical) items?

I get the concept behind these types of registries, but there's so much potential for abuse that I find them a bit offputting.

I think it's tacky too. Even though in our area cash gifts are more common, it just seems odd to ask for cash. (although a gift registry does the same for gifts- lol).

I think it is extremely tacky as well.  We had friends who did a honeyfund account not a lot of people like to contribute to those types of registries.

This is a constantly reoccuring threat over in the registry & gifts board. It is NOT well received on TK. I also agree that it's tacky. People will give you money, so let them give you what their hear desires & wallets will allow. Be happy that they're giving you anything!

Honey fund is where you register for things like $50 incraments for your cruis jet sking shore excursions etc and put the price anad instead of the person jsut slipping money in the card they click they want to buy you 2 jet ski tickets and then print the voucher and attach that to the money in the card...
  •  My fiancee and I used Zankyou.com and we had absolutley the best experience with them. We already live together and have everything we can possibly want and need so I really dont want to be forced to get things that I dont need and have to return it. What we did was put a honeymoon fund and experiences that we wanted to do so our guests contribute to that and that is exactly what we did for the cass we received. There is no hidden agenda here and our guests absolutely knew that we were asking fo the cash equivalent of all the symbolic gifts we put on there. I feel like it is my wedding and my registry so I am embracing thenew technology and also saving my guests the time and hassle of going out and buying things that I really dont want or need.

  • I wouldn't register for cash, but the honeymoon registries are a good way to get cash while having guests still feel like they are contributing to something tangible.  It's WAY less tacky than having to explain why you no longer have the salad bowl/sheets/mixer they got you because you returned it for cash.
