What to wear for engagement photos

We are taking our engagement photos on December 15th in NYC. we are doing photos by the tree, the decorated stores, etc. I obviously know we need to wear coats. but what type of coat looks best?? also, we want to take a couple of shots with no coats so what should we wear underneath? I am definitely wearing flats b/c my fiance in a tad shorter on me, so cute leggings and heels is our for me ( damnit being tall!!!!)

Thanks!!!

Avoid a Bubble Jacket Those things are rarely flattering!   Just wear something that will keep you warm but stylish at the same time. I'd wear a tailored wool coat.    I'd also suggest wearing long johns or something under your clothes to keep warm if you want to take off your coats.

I wore a purple cashmere sweater and dark-wash jeans, and sneakers. FI wore a wool peacoat and I wore a calf-length black trenchcoat.

I didn't wear a coat and I took e-pics 2 days before Christmas.  My pics are in my bio to see what we wore.

I would wear a fitted or tailored jacket over jeans and nice sweater.  You could always have your FI snap some pics of you in different jackets to see which ones look the most flattering in photos.
Whatever you wear it should be "you" dont go buy something trendy or completely different then what you would normally wear.  E-pic, IMO, should capture who you and FI are and how you interact. You want great shots that show your feelings for eachother-not ones that focus on your sense of style.
