New Jersey

Jersey Shore South Park episode last night?

Alright, I have to preface this by saying that I KNOW it's only a cartoon and I KNOW the creators do whatever it takes to be edgy, in your face, derogatory, etc.

That said, did anyone watch last night's South Park episode making fun of Jersey Shore?  I don't watch South Park on a daily basis (though I have seen my fair share of episodes), but I had to watch last night's because of the Jersey Shore connection.  I thought it was funny for the most part (the way they portrayed Snooki had me cracking up!), but when they got to the part about residents of South Park asking al-Qaeda to help kill off the New Jerseyans and then they showed jets flown by al-Qaeda members being flown into the ground to kill the people... I thought it was a bit much and in poor taste.

Again, I know it was only a cartoon and it was all in good fun, but I just feel like North Jersey was one of the most deeply-affected regions from the events of 9/11 and to show al-Qaeda planes crashing into the ground for the sole purpose of killing NJ residents was a bit overboard, in my opinion.

I don't know... I guess I'm just being overly sensitive and looking into it WAY too much since the show was about guidos (not necessarily NJ as a whole) and especially since those kinds of images and "jokes" are to be expected from a show like South Park, but it did kind of rub me the wrong way.

Did anyone else watch?  What did you think?

I agree that the airplanes were a bit much. Making fun of Jersey is what it is and it's all in good fun, but I thought the topic of Al-Qaeda flying jets into the ground was still "too soon."

I'm definitely not one to be offended easily at all and I wasn't so much offended as much as maybe I felt for people who would watch that and be hurt. I certainly made me raise an eyebrow.

Also, I don't usually watch South Park, but I had heard about the "Jersey Shore" episode and thought it would be fun, which it was for the most part.

I didn't see this episode. I get a kick out of South Park from time to time, but can't stomach Jersey Shore. South Park is meant to be offensive, they don't pull any punches. I don't think it's too much, perhaps a little bit in poor taste, but as are a lot of their jokes.

I stumbled on that episode last night. Most of it was pretty funny.

I also raised an eye at the airplanes crashing into the people. That was when I stopped laughing.

I do not regularly watch the show because, frankly, they tend to go too far for me. I don't think Americans cheering at al-Qaida flying commercial air planes into anyone is funny.

Yeah, I totally get that and I think you're right not that I've thought about it a little more... maybe it did just hit a little too close to home, but may not have been as offensive to other people. Just as some topics that aren't that offensive to me might be to others.

I had a feeling that this episode was going to create some buzz.  When I was watching it last night and saw the planes crash down I got a little offended, i will be honest.  But the way that they ended the show, completely redeemed themselves in my mind.  Although I know most people will not agree, I like the policital aspect of South Park and will watch it from time to time when I know that they are going to make some point.
