Maybe I just suck at gluing...

A few weeks ago I finished my table numbers which came out really well, but throughout the entire process I was miserable because of the adhesive situation.  In order to cover a large area with adhesive as quickly and efficiently as possible without the paper wrinkling or having bumps all over, I decided to use spray adhesive.

I'm not sure if it was the brand I purchased or just my inability to properly use it (though I'm pretty sure it's idiot-proof), but I had spray ALL OVER and that stuff dries fast!  And at times the spray would come out in a fine mist and other times it would come out in big globs even though I shook the can quite a bit before each use, so there were a few spots that had bumps through the paper (luckily, I was able to cover the bumps).

In a few months I'm going to start working on our invitaitons and I need to figure out a new adhesive to use.  I used super tape and double-sided tape for some projects already, but it's such a long and tedious process and I have about 90 invitaitons to make.

Does anyone have any good suggestions or recommendations?  And am I stupid for being unable to use spray adhesive?  Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Rubber cement, I think it's the best for paper gluing. It's a slower process, but it's strong and you can spread a nice thin even layer w/ the built in brush. But open a window, it's a little stinky!

I second rubber cement. I've used this for projects before. It doesn't dry quickly.
When you press the paper on top of it, some might squish out the sides until you get used to applying the correct amount. In my experience, you can wait until it dries and it will rub off without leaving a stain.

Is regular old Elmer's rubber cement good or is there a different brand I should look for?

I would also rec the rubber cement.  Michael's carries it so if you get a coupon just run in and buy it.

I used Good old Elmer's Rubber Cement on my invites.  I believe that it is the best adhesive to use on things like this.  You can not only cover large areas but it doesn't dry instantly so you have a little wiggle room without paper wrinkling.

I just recently used craft glue sticks. I can't remember the brand, I just picked them up in Walmart in the craft section. I used it to line the envelopes for my STDs. It didn't dry fast, didn't squish out the sides, and definitely has held the paper together. Just another suggestion, I'm sure the rubber cement works too.
