Outdoorsy engagement photo places?

Good afternoon all!

I'm looking for a place in NJ that is a great outdoorsy spot for engagement pics, (that doesn't need a permit... trying to stay in a budget)

Sayen Gardens I think needs one, actually, don't most parks require one?

I thought about Asbury Park, but a friend suggested that wasn't really "us".

Where did you all have yours done?

What type of outdoorsy ... forest/hiking trails, beach, waterfront, gardens and flowers, ?

Ours were at Liberty State Park. We did a few in the park and at the old train station, then did some on the ferry out to Liberty Island, and then some on Liberty Island right by the statue.

We like to hike so probably woody, and flowery. We also love historic things and even tossed around doing them at Eastern State Pennitentary.

    Your pictures sound real nice.

I'm in northwestern, NJ and we have a few nature preserves with some neat trails, wildflowers, etc. We didn't do an engagement session, but my photograher just posted one on his Facebook page that was taken at the NJ Botanical Gardens; they looked beautiful.

I had mine taken at Rutgers Gardens in East Brunswick last August. It was nice because there are flowery garden areas, and then woodsy spots that came out awesome in photos. Our photographer had done photos there and knew of some cool spots that photographed well.

Thank you! We drove through Rutgers Gardens the other day and honestly I wasn't that impressed.

We want to have our ceremony at Colonial Park so we don't want to do engagement pictures as well. (One of our photographer friends is doing them for us)

We did our engagement pics at Rutgers Gardens as well and they came out amazing. There are so many great spots for pics, including big open fields, lots of shady spots, the flower gardens, bamboo forest, there's a bridge, a log cabin, lots of archways, a giant green chair, some woods, etc. If you don't like Rutgers Gardens, check out my photographer's blog -- http://www.bradross.net/category/engagement -- basically all the e-pics he does are outdoors and he posts the location of all of them, it might give you some inspiration. Good luck!

We took our at the NJ Botanical Garden at Skylands. They came out great! and the grounds were gorgeous. The only caveat I have is that we went after a few days of rain and the mosquitos or gnats or whatever those little buggers were was really really annoying. If we stopped to take a pic and were at a standstill it didn't take long for them to start to bother us.
