Band and DJ Recommendations.....Northern NJ

Hi,
I am getting married next April and we are trying to decide between a band and a DJ.  Does anyone have great recommendations for either? Any pros or cons on having a band over a DJ.  Ive been to weddings with both and I dont have a real preference.  Please send your recommendations along....

Thanks!!

Re: Band and DJ Recommendations.....Northern NJ

  • I personally prefer a DJ. I feel like sometimes with a band it may or may not sound like the original song. They can be great too tho. I think its just a matter of personal preference.

I hired Jack Bermeo from LJ Productions and he is amazing!! He won DJ of the year for 2011.
  • Jack is an amazing DJ.  He just won DJ of the year again the other day in AC.  I went to high school with him and he's been in the business for a long time.  Can't go wrong with him.
  • mystical entertainment in nutley..they're awesome!

  • We just booked Elegant Ensembles for our DJ, however they also offer bands. We are very happy with owner Mark and I'm sure they will do a great job for our wedding.
  • I had no preference and wanted to go with a DJ because they are cheaper, but my H really wanted a band.  So we met with Craig Scott Entertainment and they were so great we booked on the spot.  We went with Phase One, but they have other bands at different price points as well.  Friends of ours used Craig Scott Orchestra and Escapade and were happy as well.

If you don't have a preference then the biggest difference is definitely price. We prefer bands and the energy of live entertainment. We are also using Craig Scott, but went with their band Escapade. We have friends that used them as well and they were so happy with them! As PP said, they also have DJs so it might be worth making an appointment with them to see your options. Good luck!

  • We had a band and it was the best decision we made. I really was against it at first and wanted a DJ, but I'm so glad we ended up with a band. Our guests really got into the music and LOVED the entertainment. People are STILL talking about it a year later, so it was worth every single penny. If you can afford it I would def. go for a band. It really changes the whole tone of the wedding and makes it seem a bit classier. I recently went to a wedding with a DJ and I thought the music was horrible and corny. Half the time there wasn't anyone dancing either. I went to another wedding recently that had a band and the music was fantastic and I had a great time. I would recommend my band and the other wedding's band obviously, but they weren't American bands.

  • I prefer a DJ because I like hearing the real version of a song.  However, I wanted to add some sort of live element with a DJ do I had a percussionist.  The percussionist would play along with some of the songs the DJ played.  It was the perfect combination!
  • We used 747 Orchestra and we never considered a DJ.  The band was incredible. Their handling of our reception and ceremony from beginning to end was above professional, high-end and their music was over the top.   We are musicians and the horns were smokin', the vocals and they way they intereacted on the dance floor with our guests kept the floor PACKED all night. I highly recommend 747 to everyone. 747orchestra.com

  • We are using the BStreet Band.  They are a Bruce Springsteen cover band but they will play everything!  They play just about every Sunday at the Headliner in Neptune (it's free to go!) so you can even check them out ahead of time for free!  My fiance's cousin used them for his wedding as well as his Uncle for his 60th birthday.  They are a BLAST!
  • We are working with Scratch Wedding DJs.  We decided to go with a DJ so that all the music maintains the integrity the artists originally intended.  My sister had The A Band and they were awesome too!

  • We are using daddy pop...they have a 9 or 11 piece band, a rapper, and a dj also if you want...best of both worlds! And they play a lot of bars around here if you want to go see them...everytime i've gone to see them they always have the dance floor packed!
  • Djs are cheaper and more versatile. I find that most bands cover certain songs really well and others, not so well. If your going with a Dj, definitely go with Mike from RunAwayWithUs Djs.
