Place card question

If you picked up a tented place card and it only had your name on the front, no table number ... would you think to look inside of it? Or would you just be standing there going, "WTF, where I am I supposed to sit?" What do you think the average wedding guest might do?

I want to do something like this, where I type the guests' names on white cardstock and then cut and mount them to a black or green place card: http://tinyurl.com/ydowp5t

Would it be silly, or helpful, to have a little sign on the place card table saying, "Please pick up your place card and look inside for your table assignment"? I just don't want people to be standing there all confused. Because if I can get away with putting the table assignments on the inside, then I can start printing and cutting out names now, and then just make up a bunch of "Table X" papers and then paste them inside once I actually sit down and assign tables. If people won't think to look inside, then I'll suck it up and print/assemble them closer to the wedding, rather than getting a head start.

I totally know that I'm overthinking it, but as silly as it sounds the place cards are something that I've been looking forward to making "cute." I haven't really done any DIY projects aside from a very simple program (no menus, no table numbers, etc.), but this is something I think I'd like to do, rather than just use the standard cards that the hall gives out with their logo on it.

My placecards will be the same, tented with name on the outside and number on in the inside. I wouldn't worry about putting a sign I would hope most people would look on the inside

I say get a jump on it to make your life easier. Most of your guests are probably smart enough to figure it out, and the few who aren't will ask for help.

You're definitely overthinking it. People will find the table number. Just went to a wedding in the summer with these sort of escort cards and there were no problems. Even for the .01% of people who may not look inside, chances are they'll either see other people doing it or turn to someone else and ask.

This would so be me...but I'd eventually figure it out.  I'm just not very smart...;)

Way overthinking this.  I actually prefer when the number is inside because I think it looks cleaner. And as PP said - if they can't figure it out they have a whole other set of problems.

People will definitely understand.  We wanted ours to have a pretty clean look so we didn't want clutter the cards with "Table ___" on the front.  Instead, we put names on the front and a nice looking sticker type thing on the back with just the number (no "Table").  Nobody had a problem figuring it out, and the nice thing is that we could add the numbers later, so we didn't have to have every single table assignment 100% figured out when we had the calligrapher do the escort cards.

Cool, thanks! Glad to hear that I can get a head start :)

I know it's silly, but thanks for indulging me, lol.
