Help! Mountain Lakes Club or Ramsey Golf & Country Club?

We're having a tough time deciding between two venues - the Mountain Lakes Club and Ramsey Golf & Country Club. Has anyone been to a wedding at either place?

MLC has a ballroom with high ceilings and pretty chandeliers, and a deck overlooking the lake for cocktail hour. I don't like RGCC's ballroom quite as much. Also, for the same price, we would get less food at RGCC.

We could have an outside ceremony at both places. At MLC it would be lakeside (pro), but also next to a pool which would be covered at that time of year (con). At RGCC it would be in an outdoor area looking out at the golf course.

RGCC however has done plenty of weddings and has good reviews. I don't think MLC does as many weddings, and the only review I could find was a Yelp review for a non-wedding function and has 1 star. I fear our guests may read up on MLC before the wedding and be dismayed by the 1-star review. I have a couple relatives who I think will be complaining about my choice, based on that, before even attending the wedding.

I really appreciate any input!!

  • I got married at Ramsey. It is awesome. The ballroom isnt super fancy, but it is nice and the food is amazing. Also, Michael was soooo awesome to work with. He was so helpful with everything that on the day of our wedding neither myself nor my high-strung, stressed out mom were worried because we knew he'd take care of everything. The grounds are also beautiful and we had the ceremony outdoors, which was lovely!

I don't know anything about the MLC, but RGCC was definitely a great place for me and I wouldn't have wanted it anywhere else.

  • You should also consider where you would have the ceremony at each venue in the event of rain. Do they have a separate indoor area, or would they have to turn the cocktail hour or ballroom into a makeshift ceremony space?

I got married at RGCC this July. It was amazing and we made the right decision. Even if it rains, which it did on our wedding day, the inside atrium space of the ballroom was really pretty. Your surrounded by 3 glass walls and it maintains an outside feeling.

PP has it right that Michael, the catering director who will assist you in anything you need during your planning is outstanding. He was incredibly helpful all the months prior to the wedding and him and his staff did an superb job the day of the wedding. Also every single one of his recommendations for vendors were great. We did not venture off from his list of suggested people.

My sig picture shows off the outside of the club. It also goes to show, if you do get rain on your wedding day, you can still get some great pictures.

If you'd like to see any more photos of the venue or have any additional questions, feel to ask here or PM me.

ETA: Yes, the ballroom has lower ceilings and maybe isn't quite as opulent as some venues in this area of NJ are. But you can still have a large wedding or a smaller wedding with it still feeling like an intimate space. The dance floor was also quite large for a 130 guests, most of whom were up dancing all night long. Cocktail hour food in The Abby room and the food at the reception was delicious and plentiful.

I haven't made it official yet, but I think we're gonna pick MLC. We'll do a tasting in Jan. Kyp said they do 50 weddings a year, which I guess explains the dearth of reviews. Thats my main concern, along with the ceremony space being cramped. we might look into finding a nearby park for ceremony. I was impressed by the modern styling, large porches, bowling alley, bars, affordability and menu flexibility. I hadn't even considered guests yelping my venue. Hopefully if they do they'll be setting themselves up to be pleasantly surprised.

<div>We had dinner at the restaurant at MLC this past weekend and the food and service were excellent. I am definitely leaning towards picking MLC after eating there and meeting with Kyp again. Tourne Park is pretty close by, so that could be a possible place to hold the ceremony.</div>
  • You have a PM!
  • Did you end up having your wedding at the mountain lakes club? I would love to hear about your experience there if you did. I am looking at that venue myself and would love some first hand advice. Thank you!
  • I grew up in Mt Lakes and have been to several events there over the years, including a wedding or two. A friend of mine had her reception there two years ago and had a great experience. You can't beat the setting on the lake and it's a bit less cookie cutter than some other country clubs. The food and service are great and you are near a lot of hotels and options for photos. My ceremony is in mountain lakes.

Thanks for taking the time to reassure us!
