Palermo's or Le Petit Gateau

Our venue offers both bakeries. Does anyone have a preference? We are probably doing a red velvet cake. Thanks!

I've never had anything from Le Petit Gateau, but we did go for our tasting at Palermo's. Many of the cakes were very very good, but I do remember that we weren't crazy about their Red Velvet (and I normally love Red Velvet). We ended up choosing a dark chocolate cake with chocolate fudgey filling that was delicious!

We just used Le Petit Gateau - cakes came out great! I can post pics of them at some point. The groom's cake I surprised DH with was a red velvet cake in the shape of a cigar humidor. It was awesome! We brought it out during the reception, but didn't eat it b/c we had the wedding cake - we brought it to the brunch the next morning and it tasted fantastic!
I also recently a MOH in a wedding that used Palermo's. Their cake was good as well, but I didn't try their red velvet.

How far from your wedding did you schedule your tasting at Palermo's? Our venue also offers cakes from there.

I didn't do my cake tasting until 3 months, maybe a little less, from the wedding. It was plenty of time!

My venue told me we could do the tasting whenever, so we went in April and our wedding is in September.

Our wedding cake was from Palermo's- half was red velvet with oreo filling and the other half was vanilla cake with nutella filling.

I have to say that it tasted like a different bakery made the two layers. The red velvet layer was just so incredibly dry and blegh IMO - but then the vanilla/nutella layer was AMAZING. I think red velvet may just not be their thing unfortunately. It did look gorgeous as well and they were super nice, I just don't recommend their red velvet!

Yeah.. that is how I remember the red velvet being at the tasting.. and I was surprised and sad because I would've possibly liked to do red velvet also. I remember the vanilla/nutella from the tasting and yes, it was really good!

I'll take a shot and go with Le Petit Gateau first then. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up picking something else but I know that red velvet is the first choice since my fiance isn't a huge cake person and the white/chocolate flavors don't do it for her.

We are using Palermo's and I actually just spoke to them today about when to schedule the tasting.  They suggested 6-8 weeks before the wedding.  I'm going to go late Aug/early Sept for our end of October wedding.

Our venue uses Palermo's and the cake is included. We chose a white cake with vanilla custard and strawberry filling, but let me tell you, Palermo's had a cannoli filling that blew me away.  I would have gone for it if we weren't doing the Viennese hour.

We are using Le Petit Gateau. We met with them on Saturday and sampled their cakes.  We loved all their samples. My FI loves red velvet and he thought their red velvet was great.

We are doing aternating layers of red velvet and yellow cake with bavarian cream.

    Good luck!

We just used Palermo's for our wedding on Saturday since that was who our reception hall uses for their cakes and it was included in our package. We had a 4 tier cake and two tiers were vanilla cake w/ vanilla custard and fresh strawberries, one was red velvet w/ cream cheese filling, and one was vanilla cake w/ cannoli cream filling. All of the vanilla cake w/ cannoli cream went (we didn't get to taste it since we didn't eat much). But we did have the red velvet and the vanilla custard w/ strawberries and I have to say I wasn't impressed with either. They were very dry and the buttercream icing overpowered all of the cake.

Didn't you go for a tasting first? Or were those flavors not dry when you tasted them? I remember certain ones being dry when we went for the tasting, which was why we didn't pick those flavors.

You can go whenever you want. When I called them, they told me that. We had our tasting last month for our September wedding.
