I went to Vegas to see my folks for New Year's this year, and while I was there, I took the opportunity to take care of some wedding business. I'm finally getting the chance to sit down and type this out, so hope it helps some of you out. :-)
Maggianos
Okay, what can I say that hasn’t already been said? The food is awesome and Marc is just a great guy. He was super helpful and answered our millions of questions during our tasting. Going into the tasting, I had a rough idea of what I would like to serve at the reception – but I was open to suggestions. I’d never eaten at Maggiano’s before and I wanted to taste of something other than the usual Italian dishes (ie Lasagna).
After listening to me ramble on (and answering the millions of questions my mom and FI were firing at him) he sent out some great suggestions for us to taste. It was all delicious, but it also helped me put some things on the menu that I wouldn’t have considered earlier (like the fish). I know they all read these boards and even though I sent him an email thanking him, I wanted to put it on The Knot again. :-)
Wynn
My WC Becky is amazing! She’s so helpful and patient with my going back and forth about different decisions and answering my questions (and then turning around and answering those same questions for FI and mom).
The Wynn is just beautiful, and they put just as much care into their wedding salon and wedding services. Before I booked my wedding, I’d never even set foot inside the Wynn, despite the many times I’d been to Vegas. I booked based on recs from this site, pics, and my mom’s insistence that “if you can get the Wynn, then you’d better get it!” I’m so glad I listened! LOL
Cosmopolitan: Chandelier Bar
ZOMG! The Chandelier Bar? It’s friggin awesome! It’s so beautiful, the lounges are on three separate stories each inside the ginormous chandelier.
Only one of the lounges was operating when we went there (middle of the day) and only a few people were getting drinks. It’s not really a club from what I gather, but there’s lots of seating and I could see it having more of a lounge feel. Since my wedding and reception are going to be in the early afternoon, we’re going to try to meet up there for post-wedding cocktails and maybe then try to go to a club.
I’ve checked the website, and it seems there’s a club there too which specializes in house music, which me and FI and friends are into, so we may just carry the party there. It’s one I’m keeping my eye on.
Cosmopolitan: Pool
Again, how cool? The pool and cabanas are on the roof overlooking the strip and PH in particular. There are three different levels of pools and…well, you just have to see it. To be honest, these pools look more like they are for the lounging/ sunbathing crowd, or as my mom used to call it “splashing, not swimming.” They’re not very deep…large swaths of the pools are only about knee/ankle deep from what I could see with a largish square in the middle for deeper water.
This would be a neat place for a meet and greet pool party. There’s a bar that serves food (though I couldn’t tell you what kind of menu they have – the couple I saw eating was working on a burger) a games area with a pool table, foosball and about 20 TVs.
FI took video, not pics, so I can’t share with everyone. If you want pics, check out the website. If you’d like to see our video, PM me and I’ll see what I can do.
City Center:
We took a quick visit to the City Center. To be honest, there’s not much there yet. A lot of open space, but very few shops there yet. I can see the potential there for great things in the future, as more stores move in – because it’s in a great location. But right now, it’s a bit too early.
Davids Bridal:
I went to the David’s Bridal just off the strip—on Sahara Blvd, just across the street from Palace Station Casino – to pick up some swatches for my UK Bridesmaids. I spoke to Andrea and she told me that my BMs could actually have their dresses delivered to that David’s Bridal to avoid having to travel with their dresses.
She also told me that, since August is during their slower season, they could probably do a quick turnaround of any of the girls’ alterations if needed (she said about 4-5 days).
So it’s an option you guys if you need it, especially if you’re staying near that end of the strip (Wynn, Sahara etc), it would only be about a 10 min cab ride there and back.
Whew! Sorry for the novel! :-) If you have any questions, please ask.
Happy New Year!
