No DJ / Band at Recption

Because we're doing the Vegas wedding (11 a.m. ceremony followed by lunch reception), we decided that we don't need a DJ / band -- we thought people could go out afterwards and party.  Now we're hearing a lot of -- "your not having a DJ -- why???"

Do you think its worth the expense or are we being reasonable?

We're using an iPod at our in-suite reception.

I think you are being very reasonable, especially for a lunch reception. I used to be a wedding coordinator and I think I only ever saw one wedding have a DJ or band at a lunch reception (mind you it was in Michigan, but still!) You could just get an ipod and dock and play your own music, I think that would be perfectly fine!

we're using an iPod for background music.  no dancing at our restaurant 'reception', so no need for a band or DJ here :)

I would just use an iPod. The only reason we even considered a DJ was because we needed to meet our room minimum at Maggiano's.

To me, paying $600 for someone to play music for 4 hours is just not worth it---especially considering we will have less than 30 people at our wedding.

You are being very reasonable. There's nothing that requires you to have a DJ or band.  I've only seen those at receptions that are in a hall or venue of that sort.

Our wedding is at 4pm and we're treating our guests to dinner following the ceremony.  After that, we're letting our guests know that they are welcome to tag along with us as we wander around.  We won't be hosting a dance party, but we do plan to come back to our dinner venue later in the evening when it converts to a nightclub.

We aren't having a DJ at out reception either.  We are going the ipod route as well. I figured that if everyone went out to a lounge or club after dinner then the DJ there would suffice.

I think that's what we're envisioning -- just not sure how to convey it to guests.

We have a brief mention in our program - "The celebration continues after dinner if you wish to join us."

We figure that no more than 15 or so people will take us up on the offer.  There's no set plan, FI wants it to be spontaneous.  Our dinner is at Rumjungle in the Mandalay, so we'll probably start at Red Square for vodka shots and see where our whims take us from there.
