XP--Rethinking my dress

Ok...first off, I love my dress beyond words. I think about it all the time and how amazing it made me feel. I truly had "the moment" in my dress and I get butterflies everytime I look that a picture of it.

That all being said, I purchased this dress when my FI and I were planning a big wedding. We are now having a DW wedding in Vegas with only two people in attandance (possibly 3 but unlikely). I am really starting to think my dress is too much. I also have a cathedral veil, which I love as much as my dress, that I dream of wearing, but I'm thinking that is way over the top. The veil is one tier with lace all around the edge with lace appliques throughout

We are getting married at the Imperal Palace in Vegas (if that makes a difference)

Here is my dress...

Re: XP--Rethinking my dress

  • I don't think it's over the top - it will make for beautiful pictures for yourselves. I say go for it, wear it all anyway.

Otherwise, (2nd suggestion?) keep the dress, but drop the veil, and do a flower or hair pin instead? I think your dress is fine - could be dressed up or down according to what you're looking for.

  • The IP has an amazing chapel. You chose your dress for a reason! Even if it's just the two of you.... Rock that dress girl! And that veil! Think of your pictures! It'll be beautiful :)

  • My biggest issue is how to wear it around Vegas after the wedding.  I paid $1500 for the dress so I want to wear it longer than 10 minutes.  The veil I don't mind taking off right after the wedding and I'm going to just wear a flower in my hair for the night

  • You can wear it around vegas fine! Iss it the train you are worried about?
  • Don't worry about wearing the dress around the strip, you won't even feel it and wearing it will be completely natural, I promise. You can always ask the seamstress to add an invisible "ring" of fabric in the middle of the train, that you can use to pick it up casually. My dress has one too but the feature I adore the most about it is the 10foot train that I REFUSED to pick up and let flow shamelessly as I walked. The dress will be one with you, you love yours so don't over think it :) just enjoy it!
  • You are correct, it's the train.  The veil can come off and no worries, but while it is a short train, I don't want people stepping on it or anything.
  • Wiwicaty....can I see a pitcure of your dress and train?  I'd like to see how your made it work in Vegas
  • Does your dress have a bustle yet? if not, look into one - that will be what picks it up off the ground, if that's what you're worried about.

I paid good money for my dress... you bet your veiled behind I'm wearing that sucker ALL D*MN DAY! Putting on comfy shoes, and bustling mine up, because the train pulls the skirt too close to my legs when I walk, and hitting the strip for drinks and food! (Besides, maybe we'll get free stuff if we're still spiffed up?)  I'm getting married in 2 weeks down there, I'll let you know. :)
  • This is a picture of the back. When I walked the train kinda did its own thing behind me and every now and then I would pull it from either side to open it up or move it. That piece of fabric I mentioned before could be hooked to the lower buttons so that's what I did during the reception when we did our dancing, tosses etc.

  • I was worried about the same thing because we're having a reception here at home that I want to wear it to.  I almost bought a cheaper back up dress just in case but  I'm really glad I didn't bother because I felt like a queen in it all night.  I had my seamstress put a bustle on it but I honestely only used it half the time because I loved having the train flow behind me whenever I had the chance!  Your dress will get dirty though if you go on the strip. I didn't even think about that and almost cried when I finally took it off and saw that all around the bottom was gross!  But Debbie with Fit for a Bride said she could probably make it look almost new again because they've got all kinds of chemical cleaners they use.  So she's going to clean it and get it back here in time for our home reception in April.  It hasn't arrived yet but I pretty confident that she'll make it look great again.

  • 1) I absolutely ADORE your dress.  It's so stunning.  I wanted the watters & watters version with the lace sleeves so desperately!

    2) Did you buy at the Wedding Shoppe?  That's where my dress is from, too ;)

    3) I agree with the bustle.  You can have a good seamstress show you different bustle options, too.  I say wear the dress all day!!!!
  • LOVE THIS DRESS!!!!

I would say bustle it up!!!  WEAR IT ALL DAY LONG UNTIL IT'S JUST YOUR AND YOUR HUSBAND!!!  :-)

Its TOO pretty to not bustle it.

  • I think everyone else said it very well that no matter the location, venue, etc. you should wear what you love! The only thing I will add is since I am a local here, I LOVE to see the ladies around town when they are out with their dresses. They look so gorgeous and happy and FUN! Trust me, no one will see it as odd you have an elegant wedding gown on in Vegas.

  • I purchased my dress in Iowa and I can't wait to put it on.  I do agree that bustling it will be the best way for  me to go.  Our wedding should be about 5pm and we are meeting Todd Wilson for pictures at noon for our four hour Las Vegas tour photo package.

Any extra advice on how to protect it?  Do I ship it out there or carry it on the plane with me?
  • I'm doing the photo tour with Todd beforehand too.  Not sure I have the logistics worked out on that either since I know I'll want the train relatively clean for the ceremony AND I know I'll want the train in some of the "around town" pics beforehand.  But I'm wearing my dress. lol  I"m gonna wear the crap out of it. That will be the only day I get to wear it so I'm going to wear it as long as possible.  And mine is a ballgown really.  Not overly poofy but a ballgown just the same.

I think your dress is gorgeous, I wouldn't second guess it at all

Oh my goodness!!! We are dress twins!!! I absolutely love our dress too...I had the tulle taken out of mine though so it would lay flat with no poof at the bottom.

Here is a pic from my first fitting on how they did the bustle...
it's only pinned up to show you what it would look like and then when I got it back done last month it looks even better! Totally off the ground!
