Room Blocks????

I have been having my own battle with whether to do room blocks or not??

Do they truly save money.. how do I decide where to do room blocks??

Soo unsure of it....

thoughts are appreciated.. and suggestions

Re: Room Blocks????

  • You should do them simply because they're free, so no harm in doing it to have as a precaution.  Room blocks are very rarely the cheapest way to get a room, what is important about them is that it guarantees a room will be available at a specific price up until 30 days before the wedding date, so any of your guests who sit around until the last minute, well last minute being the month before, will still be able to get a room at the property you want them to be able to get a room at, even if something big is going down at that property for the wedding day and they sell out all the other rooms to the general public.

We did a block at Mandalay but also made several coupon codes known to our guests, so most booked early and saved probably 40% beyond the online rate, and probably still 30% lower than the room block rate.  A few waited until the last minute though and still got a room at Mandalay even though the weekend had sold out at that point.

  • I was going back and forth on whether or not to set one up as well. In the end, it didn't cost us anything extra to set up a room block so we did. People may be able to find some better deals elsewhere but it's up to them to decide how they want to book. We only set up a room block at the Flamingo because that's where our ceremony is and where we plan to stay. Id say if there's no additional cost to you, set one up!

  • I think I will go ahead and do it.. I guess it can't hurt anything..

People are gonna do what they want anyway, but I do know that some will wait to the last minute.. I like to get things done early.. but not all our friends and family are like that..

That's why I know I need to get my STD's out this week.

  • Does anybody know which hotels offer room blocks without charging? I am thinking of doing two hotels. MB the rooms arent available yet, I would assume the blocks can only be made when the hotels room open to the public? or am I mistaken?

Where are you having your ceremony/reception? As far as when to book, you will have to contact group sales.
  • I am planning to have an in suite reception at MB

  • Yes, you should do room blooks. I did mine at the stratosphere and the Rivieria and they were both free. The guest have a cut off date and time if they don't book then the room block will be cancelled. They can stay were ever the like but i am sure the room blook is way cheapier.

Ok you should do MB and maybe Luxor since it's close and a cheaper option for guests.
  • I am getting married and having a insuite reception at Mandalay Bay and I blocked rooms at Mandalay Bay and Luxor. I picked those two because Mandalay Bay is the place where I'm getting married and Luxor is a little cheaper and close to Mandalay Bay... I blocked the rooms as soon as they were released by the hotel. I just called the hotels and asked when they were releasing my dates! :
