Got a wedding invitation in the mail yesterday...

From an old friend of FI's addressed to FI and guest (and she does know he's engaged). Really? We've been engaged for almost a year and you couldn't take the extra time to find out my name? Sorry, just had to vent a little. We got the invite yesterday and it still sort of bugs me.

I totally understand your frustration.  Last winter we got an invite from one of FI's BEST friends (FI was a groomsmen in the wedding and everything) (and actually the guy is a groomsmen in our wedding), and it was addressed to FI & Guest.  Um, HELLO!!! We live together!  I thought it was extremely rude.  Of course my FI told me to get over it and not take it so personally.  Nice.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this rude. I took the time to find out everyone's SO's names for the STD's. @tlbattaglia, It's funny because I was actually surprised at how personally I took it.

I think I would have the same reaction you had. I mean, they could have sent a text message or a quick email to get your name.  I know when I sent out the STD"s that I tried to get as many SO names as possible, some have changed since I sent them out, but I will update, welll maybe not when I send out invites.

I agree. I got an RSVP addressed to Ben & Pippa. My name is Petra. How hard is it when it is emblazoned across the very form that you have just ticked the boxes on?!

ohh no...if I get a ton of RSVPs addressed to Chadd & Ginny....Im gonna be soo annoyed.

I would be a little upset too!

Last year FI got a wedding invitation... and it was JUST to him. Not even a "plus guest." And they knew we were engaged. Needless to say, FI RSVP'd NO.

Well to be honest I would have had a moment. THEN. You gotta move on...I know that I tried my best to make sure that I covered all of my bases, but, sometimes it happens...and at least he had a "guest". Just remember that things get hectic and in all honesty some people don't do there own invites and you never know if it was really someone else's mistake.

I am no E professional, but I am pretty sure that unmarried couples who are living together,  (or engaged) should be added on the invite. If you have a friend not in a serious relationship that you want to be comfortable at you wedding, you would invite "& Guest."
  • edited December 2011
Umm thats not rude thats called etiquite.  Your not married yet.  In fact you are a guest.

Well to be honest I think MOST people only do "Guest" if they are offering a +1 to a single friend, not someone who they KNOW is in a relationship. Like I said to be honest it could have just been a addressing mistake and they happen. I wrote out both parties names, married, living together or not.

I was under the impression that engaged couple = social unit, which means both names should be included on the invitation.  And as I mentioned above, maybe I just took it a little personally because I did take the time to find out SO's names when we sent the save the dates.  I guess I wasted a bunch of time by trying to be considerate.

I also went through the trouble finding out SO names for our STDs...even had to look up on TK whats proper etiquette for addressing for same sex couples...it seems kinda lazy that they didnt even bother getting your name when they took the effort to get your shared address.
