Table 'Name' Idea! Anyone done it b4?

I'm sure SOMEONE has done this for their dinner/reception tables, but I am planning on using Vegas landmarks for the table 'names'!  We won't have too many tables so I don't think not having numbers will be too confusing.  I'm going to put fun facts of the landmarks on the back of the cards.  I'm also going to print up cards with random fun facts about vegas to put on the table, so our guests can read them while they're waiting for us or their food.

The landmarks we're using are : Stratosphere, Luxor (where we got engaged), Caesars (where we're getting married), Welcome to Vegas sign, Golden Nugget (oldest hotel) and Bellagio.

Anyone done this b4 or 'named' or #'s their tables creatively??? would love to hear ideas!

I like the idea.  In the various hotels' gift shops, you could probably even get a replica of each landmark one for the table lol.

What we plan to do is use playing cards to identify the tables so each guest will get a playing card printed with their name on it matching the table for them.  We're going to use two cards for our spots at the head table, king and queen.  I found these place holders online that we're going to put on each table t hold the cards:

Not using table numbers in the UK is really popular. I have been to weddings where tables have been named after beaches, places the couple have visited and even football teams..!

I just saw this post on the E board and you sure got a lot of replies from there! We'e sticking to just using numbers for our wedding. We're having 12 tables at the least, and our guests might get confused with it. I know my side of the family isn't used to following names or pictures, etc. I thought about doing the different places FI and I have been to, but I am so uncreative I probably won't get it done!  But you're only having a few tables anyway, I'm sure it'll work out nicely.

If you're going to double post something here and another board, typically you should use XP in the title FYI.
Sounds like a good idea, then how will the guests know what table they are at? Will they get like a mini version of the table sign?

I have seen cute table name ideas on the Vegas knottie list.

My sister just got married and she named her tables after famous couples from books and movies. Like "Eric and Ariel," "Romeo & Juliet," and "Westley and Buttercup" etc.

Our table theme was "Which Vegas are You," meaning people go to Vegas for various reasons whether to gamble, party, go to shows, old Vegas, etc. We had an Elvis table, Hangover table, Casino table, Rat Pack table, our 'cheesy' Tom Jones table and we paid homage to Siegfried and Roy table. That way we let our guest choose the table they wanted.

Make sure that if you have numerous tables and are having specific meals served that your servers have a map of where all the tables are.  It's not easy for someone to find a Caesar's table vs. Luxor table when they are juggling hot plates.

My best man is greek; at his wedding they named all the tables after the various greek islands.  The wedding I was at this past weekend, my friend and his wife named the tables after various parts of the florida keys (wedding was in key west).    Just some other random ideas.

Totally digging the Vegas Landmark tables, that's fun. I'd having a fun time "matching" the guests at the tables to their assigned table (my parents would be Golden Nugget, my brother would be Planet Hollywood, etc).

I like the hotel name table. Although I think I would get upset if someone put me at CircusCircus. lol. VG had a good idea about getting the mini replica for the tables.

I thought about doing tables named after Vegas preformers: Elvis, Frank, Sammy, Dean, Cher, etc....
the other idea was playing cards. figure 13 tables (10 guests per table plus SH table.)  equals 1 suit of cards

For circus circus I'd put a pack of Marlboro Reds on the table.  Pretty sure its a requirement that you smoke those to stay there (hope i don't offend anyone on the board just IMO lol).  I'm embarassed to say we made the mistake of going to their breakfast buffet one time because we heard it was cheap...it wasn't and you couldn't PAY me to eat there again.

CircusCircus always makes me think of  Fear & Loathing. I will not step foot into that casino b/c I'm afraid of it.
I would do Luxor as me & Ben's table. That where we stayed our first vacation together, whenever we see it on tv we say it "our" hotel, even though we've stayed elsewhere since then. ('cause we're mushy like that)


ETA: and whatever you end up doing, it might be helpful to put a map of where the tables are next to the escort cards. My friend did movie titles for her wedding and she had a map of where each table was so we didn't wander all over the place.

My best friend had the phrase "I love you" into different languages. So one table may be in Russia, Spanish, French etc and each said I love you in that language.

Great Idea with landmarks!  I just know my guests well enough that they'd be standing next to their table asking "Where do I sit?"

We're doing table numbers & names with historic pictures of couples kissing.  i.e.  Table 1, Celebration, picture of the WWII kiss in Time Square. 

 It was surpisingly easy to find pictures of girls & soldiers kissing! LOL!  The hard part was narrowing them down!

I'm tardy to the party, but what's up with CircusCircus? I have never been there, is it bad or something?

CircusCircus is a little, shall we say, ghetto. Like I said, I won't go in there (i have an irrational fear of clowns and circuses kinda freak me out too), but Ben has. It's old, dirty and hasn't updated itself from the days of "theme" Vegas era. Where as the other hotels have moved away from the gimmick. It's really cheap to stay there, it has an RV park attached to it. Just little things that do not scream white trash instead of high class.
 However, I do know some people that like it, so to each their own.

I cannot figure out why some people still like it...maybe the price.  I know some Casinos on the strip get smoky (MGM, even bellagio), but Circus Circus takes smokey to a WHOLE new level!!  When we embarassingly went there for what we thought was a cheap breakfast I swear I could not see my hand in front of me almost it was THAT smokey haha.  Ok bit of an exaggeration but you get it. And it feels like a bad time warp to the 80's when you step in there. lots of blue eyeshadow going on...

Circus Circus is the budget property in the MGM stable.  (They got bought when MGM bought the Mandalay Group)  It has some of the oldest rooms on the strip and an RV park (KOA?) on its grounds.  Its a good place if you're a budget traveller or have kids.  Other than that, I there's not much of an attraction.  I know MGM would close it in a heartbeat if it wasn't such a cash cow, but with the recession, they have one of theconsistantly  higher occupancy rates on the strip.  Go Figure...

They also have have the highest percentage of original employees amongst casinos - when I was in Vegas in 2007, I think it was 40% of them had been with CC since they opened in 1968! 

**back to the original thread** You could also use some of the older hotel/casinos such as the Sands, the Stardust, The Frontier etc.

Hey dont bash the Circus!! I love it there!!!

We almost ALWAYS stay there when we go. And I am usually pretty lucky there! And FI hates gambling so he usually will go to the sports book or the arcade to play games (we still love to play arcade games) But we never do the buffet!! I will say that we are very easy to please, we both come from heavy gambling families, so we both practically lived in Vegas growing up.

They just remodeled half of their rooms like 2 years ago and they are super nice

I love Circus Circus too! I know some people say it's a dump, but I've been to their remodeled rooms and they are very nice actually! My parents used to always have us stay there when we were kids, and it was always a lot of fun! I still like to go there, cus 1.It's got the only amusement park here in Vegas and 2. I love winning the arcade games, makes me feel like a kid all over again!  

Anyhoo, I think you've got some great ideas here already when it comes to the landmarks. I was thinking maybe you can use actual landmarks that are close by here, like Red Rock, Hoover Dam/Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, Grand Canyon? You can put out pictures/names of them as well.

We're labeling our tables various hotels on the strip and we're using pictures we took on our past trips as the cards.
