Toasts?

Etiquette question here.

I know typically at the wedding, the best man and maid of honor make toasts. Is it customary for anyone else to make a toast as well? My FI and I plan on thanking everyone, sometime before the cake cutting. Just wanted how this generally goes.

At a friend's wedding, they just passed the mic to anyone who wanted to make a toast. I thought that was kind of cool...

I don;t really want to follow custom when it comes to making toasts.  I don't a lot of people follow a certain way on that anymore... I'm going to stand up and make a toast first with my partner and thank everyone.  Then whoever comes up and grabs the mic can make a toast!  (My father already said he doesnt want to do one because he cant speak in front of people... so we'll just see whoever does it).

Went to a wedding tonight actually.  The brides father made a toast first, then the brides MOH, then the 2 best man's made a toast.  The DJ came up next (who was the grooms sister also) and said she wasnt asked to toast but wanted to come up anyway and made a speech.  It was cute!

Every wedding I have been to the FOB makes a speech and the groom. The bride very rarely though my sister did jump up and thank her BM's.

At our reception, toasts were made throughout the reception. BM and MoH made one right before our first dance. DH and I did it right after we cut the cake then the dj announced if anyone wanted to make a toast, so my daughters did and another GM did. When I saw my dad approached us, I thought awe, how cute he wants to say something, so I said, "dad, u want to say something" and he said, "I just want cake."

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure how to do this. I had a friend who had an open mic situation, which was neat. Just wasn't sure if that was a route I wanted to take especially since we only have a few hours (her reception was quite long) plus I didn't want anyone to feel they had to make a toast or anything. I appreciate the input everyone.
