Nevada-Las Vegas

To clarify on the marriage license process...

Here is what I'm understanding from my research.  (Please correct me if I'm wrong!)

We can use the online form to pre-register.  Then when we get to Vegas we go to the office (which reminds me I should look up where that is), and we have a confirmation number type thing we bring from the online form.  Then we get a license to bring to the chapel.  Then we.......I guess I don't know what's next.  We sign and they submit it back for us?  Or we need to submit it?  And then we'd be official and order the certificate for name changing purposes and such?

Please help!  :)  TIA!

The clerk at the courthouse will give you 3 forms (from what I can remember) .... a pink form with directions how to order your marriage certificate that has your certificate number, a souvenir license, and the actual license. You give the actual license to your WC or chapel and the officiant and your witness sign it. You won't get that back, and the chapel should file it for you to the county registrar.  Then you wait 7-10 business days and order your marriage certificate online. The marriage certificate is what you need to change your name.

ETA: Our venue also filled out the souvenir license and gave it back to us.  We have it in a little frame at our house. I thought it was such a cute idea. But I'm a sap so there's that. LOL

Perfect. Sounds easy and painless. How much cash do we need to bring initially? And then just a drivers license? Or does it explain all that once we fill out the online form?

The license is $60 and I think DL is fine. You just need to make sure you fill out the online form exactly as your name appears on your DL and that's how it will be printed on the marriage license.

Hmm, what do you do if you're not being married in the chapel?  I assume we just get the officiant and witness to sign it but then it's our responsibility to get it back to the license office?

</div><div>The officiant is supposed to turn that in for you. They are recognized by Clark County, there's even a list of officiants on the website. </div>

hmmm. That makes me wonder what we are supposed to do. Our friend is officiating the ceremony.

Aerin, you had a friend preform the ceremony, right? What did you do?

If your friend is able to perform wedding ceremonies in Nevada, they should have an idea of how to file the license.

About a week after we returned from Vegas my husband got a phone call from some company ( I can't remember the name) that tried to *rush* us our marriage certificate.

Marriage certs are probably public record so there are companies that just sit there and request the week's new weddings to cold call or spam them.  Same thing happens when you form a new company, etc., you get all kinds of junk for several weeks straight.

I would assume so too but it will be about a month before we see him again, and I figure I'll get a quicker answer here than waiting a month or so till we see him again. ;P
