Scouting trip Sept 1-10 - Tips?

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been here much lately (or at least posting) but we are heading to Las Vegas next week to attend a friend's wedding at Caesars as well as to scout all of the venues we've been considering and hopefully leave Vegas with the ceremony, reception venue and photographer booked.

We've been to Vegas many times, but have never really paid close attention to how various locations would work for a wedding event or photos - so we're really quite excited.

So far our "scouting" plans are as follows:

Ceremony

- Meet with the Wynn Wedding Coordinator and tour the chapels and Primrose Court. PC is our first choice and we are really hoping they can work with what we want and that this will be as perfect as we imagined it.

If Wynn does not work out, then we plan to meet with Bellagio and possibly Mandalay Bay.

Reception

We've been flip flopping on the reception venue because while the restaurant we really want (Botero at the Wynn) will offer us the flexibility of as few or many guests as we want, we lose the ability to have privacy and to play our own music. The private rooms at other restaurants just seem to be either too big or small.

Our happy medium seems to be Maggiano's as the largest room (Calabri?) offers us enough space, gives us our privacy, a dance floor, the ability to play music AND the option of an open bar - but if we do end up with a smaller than expected number of guests, I worry the room will feel too large and we'll wish we were in a restaurant.

As a result, we're going to visit Maggiano's, Botero (Wynn) and Prime (Bellagio).

Photographers

We're doing an engagement shoot while we're there with Mike L and co. Assuming the shoot goes well and we're comfortable with them, we'll book them for the wedding.

We're not sure if this will be our last trip to Vegas before the wedding, but I guess we'll have to treat it as if it is, just in case.

So for all of you out there, any scouting tips, tricks or negotiation tactics you'd like to share? Is there anything I'm missing or any other elements that I should really be ensuring to take care of now at the one year away point?

Thanks!

I think you've got this, but I would just say allow for some flexibility and have a plan if your first choice doesn't work.  What about cake tasting?  When is your wedding?  Your marriage liscense is good for a year so we got our on one of our scouting trips and gave it to our wedding coordinator to keep in our file.  You could also check out other venues (meet and greet, rehearsal dinner, ect) if you need those spaces as well.  Mostly just have fun!

I believe there's a medium sized room at Maggiano's also ... Abruzzi in case the Calabria is too big.  Just an idea :)

Good luck and have fun! And if you don't mind, can you tell me how your friend's wedding goes at Caesars? That's where I'm getting married and I like to hear about their weddings.

There's a bridal expo at Green Valley Ranch on September 5th, that might be worth checking out since you're already there!  I just got an e-mail this morning with the info, here's the link if you're interested!  http://tinyurl.com/gvrbridalexpo

I was a Wynn/Maggiano's bride and loved it.

Honestly while the PC is pretty I found it to be a bit noisy based on the webcasts and that was a concern since we planned on webcasting our wedding.  If you do the PC the wedding is delayed online because they need to film and upload it to their servers and every PC wedding I saw someone always blocked the shot of the bride coming down the aisle and it was harder to hear a lot of the ceremony from the webcast.

I agree, check out all the spaces at Maggianos and if cake is a concern, try to do a few tastings.  Don't book too many things in one day, space it out and make sure you enjoy your time down in Vegas.

OMG....you're going to LOVE PC at wynn! I'm getting married there in 2 1/2 months, with my reception in one of their ballrooms.

I actually have a picture of it saved as my background at work and on my laptop. I saw it a couple of times in person, both decorated with just some basic flowers up front, and undecorated...it was absolutely beautiful. Just don't be too shocked on the price tag, it's not cheap.

As far as negotiation, have to talked to anyone from the places you're going to next week?? I ask, because you may or may not want to talk to the same individuals...some will be more willing to work with you than others.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and tips. We are so excited!

We never thought about the cake tasting - that's a good idea. If we don't make it back to LV before the wedding, we would never have had a chance to try. Thanks all for the tip!

ebonyivory - I will definitely tell you how the wedding goes. I don't expect it to be anything less than fabulous, but I'll give you an update when it's over.

direy25 - Thanks for the heads-up about the expo. I wish it was all weekend! The 5th is our friends' wedding so we can't make it, it's a shame it isn't also on the Saturday :(

    - Did you end up deciding against the PC in the end? If you went with a Wedding Salon, did you feel it still felt like the Wynn.. like an over the top venue? That's what we're hoping for. We know PC is pricey, though I didn't know it was loud. I love the idea of looking up and seeing the sun reflecting off the bronze tower :)

As for Maggianos, did you have their package that included the cake? Do they arrange the tasting with the bakery? I've asked Mark twice and he keeps ignorning that question.

1DestinationBride - Yep, we've been in contact with each venue so we have a contact person at each, which i hope will make things flow smoothly!

It's not as loud in person as it sounds on the webcasts because I think the mics pic up a lot of the ambient noise but it is on the south side of the hotel near a road and the south valet so you do hear vehicles.  We actually ruled out the PC for the longest time because of cost and then I started considering it because I really liked the outdoor space but because we had already sent out invites for the live webcast  so I couldn't switch because people were expecting to watch our wedding at a specific time.  We did use it for pictures after the wedding though.

I think the indoor wedding chappels still have the feel of the Wynn and are very nice.  There are pictures in my bio of the Lavendar salon in my reviews of Cashman photography.  It's best that you are going to see them in person though, you will definitely get a better sense of how they are.

As far as Maggiano's, we did not go with a package that included cake.  We ordered ours from Cakes Designs LV and ordered some tasting cakes when we were down for a trip last winter before the wedding.  I don't believe you would do a tasting though Maggiano's though you would probably have to contact Creations bakery yourself.

Thanks! I'm glad I had a look at your site - even the one photo of the salon you have shows details that I never noticed in the Wynn's official photos (the chandeliers!)... so I think you're totally right, We'll need to see it in person to decide. I see that your WC and ours was the same... hopefully that'll be good luck.

See, right there you've been more helpful than they've been. Thank you :)
