Meet and greet: evening Double Decker Bus or party bus Tour in June - thoughts?

Well, on logging in to The Knot this evening I saw that it is only 80 days until our wedding (gulp).

We have over 40 guests joining us now in Las Vegas, most coming over from the UK.

We wanted to throw a bit of a meet and greet with a difference.  An idea is that we hire the Show Bus of the Stars, with impersonator and tour the Strip and Downtown, starting at around 8pm so that the sun is down or on its way down.  Thought it would be fun!  Seems to be available, too.

However, would it be better to book a couple of 20-ish seater party buses instead, as they have a/c?

We have a mixed age group ranging from babies to 80, most guests are in the 35 to 50 range, though.  So DDB would be better for the young ones and the old ones, I was thinking, until you factor in the heat.

Am a bit lost with this and need help - please!

Thanks!

  • A DDB ride would be fine, in my opinion.  Especially if it is that late.  Sunset is at around 8, and it should be plenty cooled down by then to be a nice temperature outside.  Also factor in wind chill while the bus is in motion!

We are doing the DDB tour for about 60 people, ages ranging from 4 - 60, on June 23rd from 7 pm to 9 pm.

  • When I spoke to the DDB guy he said babies and kids up to age 6 have to be strapped into a car seat on the lower level. So it doesn't seem as fun for them...But we are still considering it for an August date. I don't want my 45 or so guests split between 2 limo busses.
  • We are doing a DDB for our reception on June 9th, from 9pm-11pm.  I was worried about the heat in June too, but I'm hoping it won't be that bad that late at night. I'll probably have around 40 people, ages ranging from 12-75. I think it's a fun idea and we can have music and drinks, since we aren't having a true reception.

  • It'll probably be around 80 degrees that time of night. Vegas is a dry heat, which doesn't feel as oppressive/sticky as humid heat. It really does feel quite nice when the sun is down.

If the windows in the bottom open, it should be fine. Just be sure to provide lots of ice water for your guests, and maybe some cute hand-held fans.
  • Fans are a GREAT idea! Stealing :)

  • IMO, the strip DOES stay warm because the heat gets trapped between the cars and the buildings.  In August, I've found it oppressive when you're walking around the strip at 9pm.  So it could be gorgeous, it could be very warm.

I was going to post (before Burnt stole my thunder!) that you should have plenty of water and fans.  I'd also alert your guests so they dress in layers.
  • Thanks a lot - that gives me some great feedback to take back to the Groom! CAJLomdon
  • Also keep in mind in general that with 40 guests that perhaps not everyone will fit on the top and have to ride on the bottom.  There's not much of a view on the bottom.  I remember another knottie kind of being a little irked by that on her review because they had to switch off who rode on top and bottom.  Maybe it was natrasha?  I can't really remember exactly.
