Monsoon Season

I read that monsoon season takes place from about August-October.  During that time there could be rain and it could be humid.  I wanted to get married in August and the cermony location is outside.  I am African American and my hair is natural so if there's any humidity it will frizz up, the same goes for all of my bridesmaids.  One reason why I chose Vegas was because of the dry weather, the past two times I've been there its been hot but I had no issues with my hair.  Does anyone know personally about the weather in August.

Re: Monsoon Season

  • I've never heard the summer called "monsoon season" in Vegas.  According to the statistics, Vegas has more rain in Jan, Feb and March than in August, Sept. or October:  RainFallClicky!

I've been to Vegas in August and I actually don't recall it raining at all during my trips.  It was never humid there.  Perhaps some local folks can help out with more details.

Well, it's muggy today.  It's been humid and muggy on and off once a week for the past month.  The norm is hot and dry, but even a 5% increase in humidity makes everything feel gross.  It has rained a few times in the past 3 weeks.  When it rains, It's usually short and pleasant, but it's the humidity that is a b*&$h.

So yes: we have a monsoon season, and we do feel it every year.

  • yup Monsoon season here is usually July/August, it's been quite muggy lately but the rain cools things down for a bit which is nice.

  • I won't be as helpful as the locals but I'll be in Vegas this weekend, in there weeks and again in mid September so I can give you a non-local perspective of how the weather is for at least three weekends. I'm coming from Florida though so I'm used to humidity.

  • Thanks!

I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how the weather is this weekend, especially around 6:00 or 6:30 pm because thats when our ceremony will start.  I'm from the east coast so I'm especially used to humidity.  I wonder if the Vegas locals feel like the humidity is terrible but I wonder if it is a bad as it is here in Va or NY or Florida during the summer.  This is actually a year from the date so I could kind of get a feel of how the weather might be.

    Thanks again!

  • It's definitely more of a dry heat that New York, Naiia.  I still can't say that I enjoy it much, though.  It's actually pretty cloudy outside today, which no one was really expecting at all.

Okay so have to say it wasn't that bad.  It was definitely a dry heat and was well into the 90's even in the evening around 6pm but being back in Tampa now, Florida feels a lot more brutal with low 90's and high humidity.  I should add that I was just wearing shorts sandals and t-shirt though; if I was wearing a suit for a wedding I'd have definitely been uncomfortable if I was outside longer than ten minutes, it's just too hot to be that dressed up.
