Nevada-Las Vegas

Great....

So I get an email last week from our Mandalay group dining person telling me its her last day and someone new will be assigned.  I'm thinking not a huge deal, been working mostly direct with Mix anyway.  I email the general manager of Mix today to follow up on some things and get a bounce back that his address is no longer valid.... are you f'ing kidding?!  Less than four months and now the only two people who were familiar with what we're doing are gone.

I hope they put some notes in your file. That's a bummer, dude.

Well shiit. That really sucks and is super nerve-racking. Same crap happened to me, I have been switched consultants 3 times, and one time their email was down so it was rejecting my emails as well. But HOPEFULLY they have notes in their system, and if not hopefully you have saved all of your emails and I would fight for them to honor anything that they have promised to you.

Good luck!  Were you working with Scott at MiX?  He moved out of state :(  He was helping me, too, as was the main wedding coordinator at MB (who also left).

I really hope they honor your requests!

The guy at Mix we had been working with was Steve M on the restaurant side.

I just got an email from our catering manager at Planet Hollywood that she was leaving the company and her manager would let me know the name of the person that is taking over my file as soon they find a replacement.  URGH!

That stuff is going around all over town.  Casino industry is like that, unfortunately.  Every few years, everyone rotates employers.  Now that Vegas is improving a little, everyone who was holding onto a job they didn't like is moving around.

This is a good reminder for everyone to get documentation, always.  You never know (even if you're not working with a casino) when someone will leave.  Send emails confirming what you discussed on the phone and have them reply back saying they agree.

Yep, there's the auditor in me coming out.

@MeatAuditor I was thinking the exact same thing and I am a tax accountant!

If the event planners there are competent, 4 months is enough time for someone new to get familiar with the details of your event.  The person planning our reception left the company a week before our wedding, but she let us know a few weeks prior.  The organization (Wolfgang Puck Catering, btw) was very professional about it - our original event planner made sure to let us know she was leaving once we finalized the big stuff (menu selections, etc) and her successor was extremely capable and helped with the remaining details.  It went off without a hitch (well, none that I am aware of).

Well fortunately for us there hasn't really been any planning done with the restaurant yet; we weren't even planning to do the arrangements with them on food, etc. until next month so no work has been lost.  The big concern is just that Mix has never hosted a wedding ceremony before and the previous GM was really attentive, had lots of ideas on how to pull it off with regard to changing from wedding configuration to reception with minimal guest hassle, etc. so we've been feeling pretty confident the past eight months.  Now we have to start over with a new person and build that comfort level back up that they'll make it all work out.

Shiz, this makes me nervous.  I'm on the verge of booking MB for both ceremony and a ballroom reception, but if the wonderful, helpful Catering guy ever leaves, we'll be in trouble.

This won't make you feel any better but if it weren't for dealing with Mix directly instead of the catering person I originally got turned on to when we were going to do a ballroom at MB, I would never have booked there lol, she was horrible.  Fortunately she's gone now, maybe because of that fact, so you won't have to worry about getting her.

I can tell you from experience that this is no big deal.  We worked with Kathryn for months only to find out she was going on maternity leave a few weeks before our event.  She transitioned us to another contact and everything went smoothly.  She also gave us their supervisor's contact info in case we had any problems.  I was worried, but it was no problem.  We also did most of our planning with our contact at China Grill, so you should be fine.

Oh yeah, did I mention we had Fleur de Lys bought out only to find out 3.5 months before our reception that it would be under construction?  Yes.  But, group dining did step up.  We really had a good experience with all the folks at MB.

I've decided to go to Vegas next month since I have to go to California on business; the new GM at Mix says I can have a formal tasting from the menu that will be in effect on the wedding date so we can choose our menu.  Hopefully after meeting the new guy in person everything will be cool.
