To those that are having/had an in-suite reception

This might sound like a dumb questionbut what did you do during your reception? I mean besides the obvious (food, cake, toasts, etc). Did you have a plan or a tight order to how you wanted things to go or was it more casual and just a relaxed party?

I like the idea of the in-suite reception in one way because it gives a nice big space for everyone an more informal place to just relax and be together and we do have several children joining us (aged 4-16). Just not sure what all I need to plan entertainment-wise for this!
Survived major c-section complications which led to massive blood transfusion, hysterectomy, BSO and pulmonary embolism. Very thankful to be alive to raise my kids! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

You could have a Vegas show girl or Elvis stop by at some point. GigMasters has both for hire.

Other than that, you will be busy visiting people, having a drink, etc. Maybe have music going? I think the thing I like best about an in room reception is how casual it is. No time deadline (besides check out the next day?) hovering over your head, and people can come and go as they please.

Some rooms have pool tables/games tables and built in pools. Check out the Palms Fantasy suites. That would entertain people...if you have the budget. But mostly I think people would appreciate a bigger and nicer suite than most Vegas hotel rooms, the view and being with the bride and groom and their families.

I hired Travis Allen for an hour as entertainment and that really helped create a party atmosphere. We did have a loose timeline but I wasn't fussed about keeping to a strict schedule- the only thing I wanted was to make sure that the speeches were done before Elvis arrived (without telling anyone why I was so desperate to get them done right then!)

We are planning for an in suite reception, and I'm definitely hoping it will be a "go with the flow" type of thing. Other than making sure everyone eats (not a problem!), toasts are made, and the cake gets cut, I'm plan on just kicking back and being with my guests. I do plan to have music, and I am tempted to have a visit from either Elvis or a showgirl, but I'm not totally sold on that. My goal is really to not have a schedule to follow and to hustle people around.

We are having an in-suite reception at the Stardust suite.  I was worried about this too, especially since we have music and a space for dancing, but as its a small group I doubt people will dance much.  The room is set up with little lounge areas, so we're setting up one area with a Wii for people to play.  We've also hired Jeff Stanulis as our Elvis.  He'll be there for about an hour.  Between this, the dinner, and general socializing, I'm hoping it will be fun and will keep the party hopping.

Having just had a in-suite (APEX in PH), I thought the way it turned out was 100% us! everyone was fully entertained, we had plenty of food, not quite enough liquor (DH had to go for a run to get more), our Ipod was a blast, we told our guests we will have a Ipod dock and to bring their Ipods with a playlist, our guest ended up being our DJ and it was So much fun!! Elvis (Travis Allen) MADE the party, we kept it a secret and has he came sliding into the room everyone screamed. Very surprised security was not called!

As for kids? we did not have any, we asked the parents to keep them at home so the parents can have fun, if we would have had some come that would have been just fine with us. I would say board games, maybe a few movies to keep them entertained? their parents might also be nice enough to help with some ideas. TRY not to worry about them, they will have fun, you will have fun....everyone will! :)

We're not having kids, except for a couple of babies who will probably sleep through the whole thing.  We're just planning on having food and background music, and people can just eat, drink, and mingle.  We're only planning on two hours in the suite, then we'll move to a bar for the after-party.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

We had Elvis perform at the beginning of the reception...and it was the highlight of the reception. We hired Darren Lee to perform for us and even the photographer thought he was great.
After that, it was pretty informal...but over all, I am glad that we went with the insuite reception.
