David's Bridal Venting Session

I went to David's on Sahara and subsequently, bought a dress.  The consultant told me that she had this dress in my size in stock so I could take it with me, only I had to wait for two days so they could steam it.
She knew I was leaving on a plane, so she assured me that my dress would be ready 2 days later by 11am (which is when they open).
When I arrived at David's to pick up my dress, the alterations clerk wanted me to sign a release for the dress.  Good thing I asked to look at it, because when I did I found a dirty, tattered and worn dress (I think it was the one I tried on in the store).
How devastating!
The consultant never told me that I would have to take the store model!
After alot of arguing, the manager told me that she could order me a new dress, but it would be impossible for them to ship it to Canada because they can't get their stock through customs.
After alot more arguing, they agreed to pay for shipping, but I had to pay for it up front and let them know the cost, which they will take off the price of my dress.
Normally I would never have accepted this, but I was so distraught that I left the store with nothing in writing (the manager assured me that she made notes on the computer).
How screwed up is this?
Has anyone else had this problem with David's Bridal?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?  I would like to get a refund, but I'm scared to make trouble in case they decide to make me pay for shipping.
What a nightmare...

Oh that is seriously irritating.  They would have had to call security if that happened to me lol.
I worked for David's Bridal many many years ago and after that I said I wouldn't get a dress there.  Now over the years their dresses are so much nicer but you have to double check everything!   So If I was you I would hope that the dress gets delivered to you and everything is all good.  Unfortunately you may just have to go on their word right now.
If it's not alright when the dress gets delivered then you definitely raise some hell!
Make sure you right down dates, times and names of the people you talked to...so you have some record.

I was offered to take the dress home also store model with NO discount.  I said NO way- order me a new dress!  Why would I want to buy the dirty store model, even if they do clean it, when its the same price as a brand new one.  The only reason is if I was in a hurry to take the dress home and I wasn't.

My friend also went there a few weeks ago and took home a store sample dress- for no discount!  URGH- why do they push that so much and not even offer a discount?

I had a horrible experience with them- they are very rude!

I agree, they are RUDE!  And they LIE!  The consultant didn't tell me that it would be the store model.  If I knew that I would never have agreed to it.
I was really disappointed when I saw my dress.  I told them that it was very bad business for them to be so dishonest about their product.  What a horrible experience it is for a bride to see their dress in such a shape.
Thank you both for your input and support. DIzzy, I have made notes and will be keeping track of everything just in case they try to screw me over again.
I'm really nervous.  If they send me the wrong dress or the wrong size it will be too late for me to order a new one somewhere else... I guess it's just a waiting game from now until May...

I would write a letter confirming your conversation with the manager, make sure you write date, time, location  & mgr full name if possible. Make sure that you include a short statement that says something like: if this is incorrect, please contact me immediately at (your phone # and email). Mail to the manager and cc a regional mgr if you can find one with delivery confirmation-not certified. This is what attorneys do to confirm conversations. I would probably write the regional mgr to let them know what happened anyway.

    How frustrating!

I agree with the letter ---I think I overspent a bit on my dress but is it really worth the headache of david's bridal to save $200?  I have heard nightmares about that place.  I would just get rid of them if you can and get a refund because who knows it they will come through with the shipping.  Unless you were totally in love with the dress --go somewhere else.

Whew!  Okay, looks like I am writing a letter.  Thanks for that advice.  I will let you all know what happens as soon as I hear.
I have no problems getting a refund... I love the dress but not that much!
    Wish me luck ladies! R.

I called David's today and miraculously my dress is in!
How could this be when they told me it would take until May?
They are still standing by their word that they will pay for shipping but I am still nervous.
    I will keep you updated!
Thanks again everyone, for your support!
