Photography in MGM-Group resorts

First time poster here! My fiance and I are planning our wedding in Las Vegas for next year (April or November), coming from the Toronto area.

We are going to get married at the courthouse with just one or two witnesses, followed by a family & friend pre-reception party in our hotel room (ideally a suite at the Bellagio or Mandalay Bay). Then we are planning on having a true reception dinner at a restaurant.

Photography is very important to us and we have pretty specific tastes (photojournalistic, ideally only a few posed photos, no cheesy "forced" candids). However I know that if you are having your /wedding/ at one of the M-Group chapels you are forced to use Cashman, who gets mixed reviews at best online. I have tried contacting a couple of the resorts about this but they are not giving us clear answers and mostly just try to sell their wedding packages which we do not want. Does anybody here know if you are allowed to bring a photographer of your choice in to just take pictures around the resort, given that we are not actually getting married there?

Sorry about the long post, I would really appreciate feedback from anyone who actually made it through; this has been our dream for a while and I want to have amazing photos to look back on!

Re: Photography in MGM-Group resorts

  • I have not heard of any policy at the MGM properties forbidding it and have never heard of security causing issues; just at Cosmo.

My wife and I took pictures all over Mandalay Bay last year and had no issues.  We also did a pic at an empty craps table with the whole wedding party, made sure the casino cage was not in the background, and they didn't say anything before we were done and walking away.

  • Thanks for the reply! I had read a horror story somewhere of a couple whose photographer was literally chased out of the Bellagio by security guards, but I'm guessing that happened because they had their ceremony there and went with someone other than Cashman for the pictures around the resort.

Also I'm glad to hear they didn't have an issue with pictures in the actual casino, I know my fiance would love to have a few pictures taken there!

  • You just have to be very careful about where the photographers are pointing the camera; if it's at any security device, the casino cashier cage, etc. they will be on you quick.  Best to not try to take more than one quick pic on the gaming floor if you really want one there.
