    Wiwicaty,

Is this what you have selected already or need help choosing from? As far as alcohol, if you don't drink just serve beer and wine, you can't go wrong, plus it's kind of early for hard liquor.

This is my overall selection but I need to trim it down because it's way too much food for 20 people AND because we have a $700 reception budget (should have mentioned this part). I don't know what to pick!

I would say stick with maybe 2 cold items and maybe 4 hot ones? I think that would be more than enough. I think I would have plenty with 6 items on my plate...As far as the sushi, we love it but you know you're guests better, do you think they would all enjoy it?

My suggestions based on how you describe your guests:

    RAW MARKET VEGETABLES

Creamy Boursin and ranch dips                                          Small $ 100

    FRUIT PLATTER

Market fruits, melon and berries                                         Small  $ 150

    ASSORTED BRUSCHETTA

Tomato and basil, black olive tapenade, roasted pepper, eggplant and ricotta

                                                                                            Small  $ 100

    MEDITERRANIAN

Hummus, baba ghanoush, creamed feta, grape leaves, warm pita

                                                                                           Small  $ 100

    VEGETABLE SPRING ROLL                                                        $ 48

If there is anyone that does eat meat, there's not much of a selection for them.

As for alcohol I'd go with beer, wine and champagne.

I personally don't like beer or wine so if I'm going to drink at any particular time, it's liquor, time of day doesn't really factor in.

wiwicaty, is this a catered event that you can not bring your own booze to?  If yes, just add a bottle of vodka to the beer and wine options, most people who don't like beer or wine will be ok with vodka even if it's not their preferred liquor as long as you have some mixers like soda, maybe cranberry, etc.  Whenever I have a party, people seem to consume vodka 3:1 over anything else so that's your safe liquor bet if you want to keep the budget down by only having one liquor.

Champagne is always a good option. :)

Sparkling cider is a good idea too, for people who don't drink.

What is your dessert/cake options? I would skip the fruit platter if you are having dessert.
I think all options would work well fro an insuite.Whilst I applaud you for considering the veges/raw diet people in your selections I think it is also important to consider the carnivores! My partner & I are vege but my sister will not even eat a vegetable except potatoes!

Given the menu I would think beer and wine would go well and vegas grooms idea of a vodka drink is good to. Why not pick a signature cocktail and serve that?

    My choices would be:
    RAW MARKET VEGETABLES

Creamy Boursin and ranch dips                                          Small $ 100

    ASSORTED BRUSCHETTA

Tomato and basil, black olive tapenade, roasted pepper, eggplant and ricotta

                                                                                            Small  $ 100

    MEDITERRANIAN

Hummus, baba ghanoush, creamed feta, grape leaves, warm pita

                                                                                           Small  $ 100

    MINI BLT, herb aioli                                                                    $ 48  x 2

    COCONUT SHRIMP                                                                  $ 72 x2

    VEGETABLE SPRING ROLL                                                        $ 48 x 2

    Thanks everyone for your input!
Encore - I think we can skip the sushi/sashimi even though I know that people from NY are going to like it the omes from Europe might not be into it that much.
Vegasgroom - we can't bring our own booze, thanks so much for the suggestions, I'll make sure to offer a decent selection.
I really like the sparkling cider and signature cocktail ideas!
MVJP and j_jay - I'll add something for the meat eaters but I need to keep the fruit platter for the Raw guests.
The cake is going to be two layers of lemon curd and vanilla sponge so I think that covers dessert - am I right?

    Thanks again everyone!
