Retro Bakery - Experiences

So as I continue my quest on obtaining quotes for my wedding cake, I finally heard back from retro bakery and their pricing is super reasonable, ie: half of what the other bakeries are quoting me. However, I feel like it takes them FOREVER to respond to me. Whereas with Freed's and Gimme Some Sugar, they have been super quick to answer all my questions. I know the old adage: you get what you pay for....sooooooooo what's a girl to do?

i'd like to save the money, but will i be screwing myself if their customer service is poor?  any experiences you may have with retro bakery would be super helpful!

What is "forever"? Retro Bakery is run by Kari and Brian, and a couple extra people who help out at the counter. They are extremely busy, because they literally do EVERYTHING. Kari alone does all the baking and frosting of the cupcakes they sell.

I absolutely adore them, and they are part of the reason we decided to get married in Vegas. They may not have teams devoted to responding quickly, but I really can't imagine you'd have to worry about what you're going to get if you go with them.

I guess it depends on what makes you feel most comfortable, but I love them, and they work very hard to make people happy.

I heard back from them really quick and I am still waiting to hear back from Freed's (two weeks) so i'm not really sure?

Well 3 bus. days seems like "forever" to me, where I was getting next day responses and sometimes within an hour responses from the other places. But yes, perhaps I am being overly critical.

natasha - did you do a tasting there, how was it??! me and the fi love red velvet, and are excited about retro's "red carpet" flavor...heard rave reviews on yelp.

I have been to their storefront and waited on by Kari herself and she was super friendly.  I also placed an order for cupcakes and had them delivered when we were staying on the strip and they were super-communicative about the delivery.  They set up a delivery window for that day when I placed the order.  Brian texted me the morning of, letting me know their delivery person's name and that she would be calling me when she was 5 mins away.  And then the delivery girl called and told me where to meet her at in the casino.
Their flavors are to-die-for, but I have not had their red carpet.  I'm not a red velvet fan.  Have tried just about everything else though.
Check our their blog for more info and to see past cakes.  I think you will be pleased, and while it may seem to take longer to hear from them, I think in the end you will get better customer service since they are so small.

I'll admit, 3 days does seem a little long, but I still love them!

Red Carpet is not like most red velvet cake you've had. The cake has more of a chocolate flavor, and the buttercream is almond flavored. Personally, I loved it!

We rented a car specifically to go out and visit them a couple trips ago and we revisited (TWICE!) on our scouting trip in November. It was so much fun. I've had all their flavors at this point, except for some of the specialty ones.

We're going to have chocolate fountain, hopscotch, and drumstick at our wedding, with a vanilla loves vanilla cake topper. Cotton candy is delicious (though very sweet) and fun flavor. Milk and Cookies is also awesome! In general, I find their vanilla cake to be better than their chocolate.

Okay, I'll stop rambling about my love!

OMG I'm sorry, I'm a dork, but I also have to rave about coffee and donuts. I'm going to have some of those to snack on at the suite after our bachelor/bachelorette party! Also, the brownie sundaes are SO GOOD.

Whew. My diet is catching up with me. I'm dying for cupcakes now!

Love them. Loved loved loved them!! It's a busy business---so, give it time. They do such a wonderful job, and their cupcakes are to-die-for. Hands down on of my favorite parts of our wedding (especially the left overs)!

WOW I wish my cake place got back to me in 3 days.. it only takes her about... well forever. I emailed her in October and the beginning of the year and have not heard a peep. She told me she hates email so I will probably call but I have been on the lazy train.. I hate phone calls!!!

I think you should go with whatever you feel more comfortable with, but I would probably go for the cheaper way, there is no way that a cake can cost double, no matter how it tastes! But I am a cheap-ass......

I love Retro too. I just gave them a call, so I can't really say anything about their response to emails. The mini cupcakes are perfect and you have the option to order 2 flavors per dozen.

Thanks ladies for all your input.  I really think I will end up going with Retro now.  Rave reviews, and half the price of others....I think I can handle less communication.   Will let you know how it works out.
