We still havent booked out flights from Chicago to Las Vegas yet. We've been hoping for a deal...and no such luck yet. We are hoping to fly southwest..but at this point..it doesnt really matter. Ive signed up for airfarewatchdog.com and have been stalking southwest.com's site. The only cheap option is Spirit or Frontier and I havent heard good things about them and JetBlue doesnt fly out of Chicago. I also looked into group travel with southwest and we wont have 10 people coming back (FILs are staying a few extra days in Vegas) so we wont have enough people for the group travel. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks : )

We are flying SWA (and try to even if there's a price difference) because we'll get 4 free check ins between the 2 of us, and they usually have super nice crews and I am hoping they'll have an extra spot for my gown (they let my friend hang hers in the pilots closet). 

Spirit: My mom works for them so I can't advise against them.  Same concept as southwest (value airline) but you do pay up for your bags, even carry ons.

My business partner got robbed by Frontier, seriously.  Her and her husband bought a winter home in Colorado that needed a lot of rehab.  So they flew out one week and he put a lot of the stuff he'd need to work on the house in his luggage.  They get to colorado and most of his tools are gone.  Over the next TWO MONTHS the final outcome was this:

The luggage got screened by TSA.
The luggage was handled by Frontier
The items went missing
They filed a claim and Frontier blamed TSA
TSA was contacted, and since they're probably used to this, TSA provided a video showing their screener taking everything out, putting everything back and then securing the luggage, then the bag going back on the belt.
Frontier was presented with that information and stopped responding.
Certified mail, etc. final response was that your loss did not involve clothing and their guarantee only covers clothing, sorry.

They're not playing on that carry on fee either, I almost booked a flight with them next month and then realized after the luggage fee and carry on fee they'd be $40 more than Southwest even though the base rate was lower.

I used to love flying Frontier in college, but that was before the airlines started tacking on a bunch of extra fees to check bags.

I booked our flight and hotel  through expedai. they deals were cheaper then booking everything separated for us ,We are staying off the strip at the Embassy suits for four night for$ 980.00

We just flew Frontier to and from Vegas and they were very accomodating, we've never had a problem with them and they are usually the cheapest for us.

Hey Junebug. I live in Chicago too. I booked through Southwest for the wedding and at that time they were 180 each way. They are now up to 200! About a month ago I got an email through southwest for a three day sale. I ended up rebooking for 129 and 149. The money you save is attached to your flight confirmation and you can use it for a future flight. But, if you have a visa signature card you can get a code from them for 15% off. https://usa.visa.com/signaturesouthwest/index.jsp?ep=v_sym_signaturesouthwest It is good for booking up to 8 flights. If you don't have a visa signature then you can buy one on eBay. You can always rebook for free if the fare drops as well. Good luck!

I would book as soon as possible if you are just booking air. I watched Southwest and other trend websites for months daily and it kept fluctuating just a little up and not much down. It now has consistently stayed a little higher. I know based on guests telling me that booking air plus hotel on a travel website is much less expensive including air thank airfare alone

Booo! They all expire June 1 and we are leaving June 2! I even tried to call customer service and play the "im getting married and we are flying 6 people out with us pleaseeeee" and no luck. It was worth trying. But I spoke with FI this am and I guess we are just going to book tonight at this price...we can't afford for them to go up even more. But thanks all for your advice!!! Much appreciated!

Hey June- I read somewhere (I think the Nest) that the more you look up flights, the higher the price goes. Something about they know you are visiting their site for a flight. You need to delete your cookies after you look for flights or use a different computer.

Also, I read that if you put the flights in your cart but don't check out and wait a couple days, they usually cut the prices.

I've never done these things, but it can't hurt!

You can switch browsers too...use Chrome, IE and Firefox so you don't have to delete as often.  However, since aggregators are already posting flight costs, it doesn't make sense for the actual airlines to raise their prices.
