Leaving for Vegas tomorrow for the big day-last minute questions on tipping and transportation

Hi all. We leave tomorrow morning for our long awaited trip to Vegas. The wedding is on Wednesday and can't wait. There will only be 5 of us (myself, FI, his two kids and a family friend who happens to be Fi's ex mother-in-law and grandma of one of the kids) and I am so glad we are doing the wedding our way. So here are some last minute questions before the trip.

Tipping (I read Vegas groom's tips on it but still had a few questions).

1) Did you tip your MUA? She will be doing myself, the family friend and the little girl. How much did you tip?

2). How much did you tip the minister? The fee is already paid through Mandalay Bay since we are getting married at the shark reef so it would just be the tip. I am thinking $25?? We haven't asked for a difficult or unusual ceremony other than our own vows and the Irish marriage blessing to be read at the end of the ceremony.

3). Wedding coordinator tip? Again, since this is a very small wedding, I think I have e-mailed her about 5 times in the whole planning and have never once called her. Our requests have not been difficult (things like can the little girl walk in with her dad despite being my maid of honor and can we add extra flowers to my bouquet-nothing difficult). Again thinking $25 because it hasn't been difficult in planning.

Transportation

This has been the big issue for me. We are renting a house off the strip due to having the kids with us. It's been such a fabulous idea-praying the house looks as good as it does in pics and all the past customers who I have contacted were right (yes, I did a backround check, checked on taxes on the house, and contacted past people who stayed there to make sure it was a good place). Anyway, we have rented a car for our whole stay.

Here's the issue. We originally are booked for a limo to take us on our wedding day to take us from the house to MB for the ceremony at 9 am. Due to it being off the strip, it costs us a 1.5 hr rental for the limo. We have also booked a limo for our photo strip tour with Wilson and Bently. We will then be having lunch at Top of the World due to sentimental reasons. Because of that, we don't know when we will be done with lunch so just planning on getting a taxi back to the house afterwards.

However, I am having a hard time paying over $200 for the limo ride to the ceremony and then a taxi later that day. I know it's petty considering all we have spent (heck, my alterations were more) but FI is willing to drive to the ceremony and we would just get a taxi back to MB where the car is after lunch and drive home. Is that plan weird? I just feel traveling with kids, that $200 is more money to spoil on the kids. Plus I hate the fact the original limo to the ceremony will take approx. 20 minutes and cost over $100. Am I being ridiculous with this?

[QUOTE]  I thought I heard from VG not to tip coordinators.

That sounds like something I'd probably have said lol.  I tip pretty heavily in Vegas, but for a resort wedding coordinator, making your day go smoothly is their job and they should be making a reasonable salary to do it, so unless they go beyond the call of duty, I don't think tipping them is necessary.  A third party coordinator of course is a different story, as they typically do all kinds of things that may or may not be normal; we did tip Scheme who coordinated our wedding day because they did everything from getting my shoes shined last minute when I realized I had forgotten to running back to my room after the ceremony when I had also forgotten a page of the wedding license paperwork.

We tipped Francesca both times my wife used her; I think maybe $20 this past time since it was just her during our anniversary trip, but I think it was $50 when she did the wedding day with multiple people.

I think $25 is more than enough for the officiant.  We tipped Rev Roland $50 but he came to meet us the night before during our rehearsal dinner so we could get to know him and give him a feel for what we were looking for, and he did an excellent ceremony, so the unusual effort I felt was worthy of a big tip.

As long as both of you are totally comfortable with the idea of driving to the wedding, I see absolutely nothing wrong with not wasting $200 that you could spend on other things that you'd get far more enjoyment out of than a limo ride.  Obviously it's nice to be pampered on wedding day, but $200 to spend on things for yourselves is nice as well.  Only issue I can think of is if you are getting dressed at the house, the limo obviously makes it a lot easier to avoid wrinkling the wedding dress on the way there, if that's a concern.
