wedding tax

hi all,

may be a random question but does anyone know how much roughly the tax is on top of the wedding packages? or will I need to email the hotels?

Thanks,

Re: wedding tax

  • i think tax in is 8.1% is what the restaurants been having me tack on to their reception packages.  i think for ceremony its the same
  • 8.1 percent is the state tax I believe. Unless stated otherwise, I would guess it is that. However, it doesn't hurt to confirm with the vendor what you are paying...
  • a lot of places charge another tax on top of that - whether it be entertainment tax, or gratuities etc - can be as high as 20% so definitely double check.

  • Sales tax is based on the state base rate plus the county that you're in and cities can also add on.  For hotels on the strip, they're not in the city of Las Vegas so the sales tax is currently 8.1%.

Many chapels that employ officiants on a contract basis will also have you pay the officiant directly in advance of day-of; those fees can be anywhere from $50 and up so best to get it in writing as to whehter you'll be expected to pay them directly or through the chapel, and what the fee is.

It's common for wedding vendors in Vegas to charge a 20% fee if there are service staff involved who do not get paid normal wages, so restaurants, reception venues, etc. but you don't see that very often at chapels.  Again, make sure to get everything in writing, and don't feel bad about asking them to put something in writing that there is no fee for such and such even if someone tells you that over the phone.

  • From what my chapel told me, they are required to charge a service tax, as opposed to regular sales tax, which is 18.1 or 19.1%.  I thought all wedding vendors charged that.
