Group Air Travel

Has anyone gotten a group rate with an airline before? We have at least 15 people wanting to fly out on Wednesday for our Saturday wedding, and I'm going to look into Southwest (and possibly Frontier) for a group rate. Any reviews, tips or advice?

we were going to do the group travel with southwest. we are flying out on a thursday and coming home on a sunday. They gave me a rate of 214 and some cents, when the web special rate was 200 on that thursday. I asked why it was 14 more and they said it is a % off the lowest rate NOT including web specials. On that sunday rate was 227 so that rate went down to  214 and some cents. You have to do a 10% deposit 1 month after you reserve for those 15 seats and then the remaining balance for those 15 seats have to be paid in one payment by 1 credit card or by 1 cashiers check. We are paying for our bridal party but not a few others that are on the same flight and I couldnt charge my cc for all their seats as well. It didn't seem like it was worth all the hassle to save 14/pp.

I had the same experience trying to come up with a group rate on several airlines since a lot of our guests are coming from the same location on the same day; I ended up with the opinion that a group rate on an airline is kind of like a hotel room block, good if you want to wait until the last minute but you can get much better pricing individually using web deals if you're a little flexible.

Yep, same here, it only locks in a rate that is established by thme so as the price goes up they'll get a deal but fo rthe most parti it's not worth it.

I was told by a friend in the business that it is always more expensive than internet rates because technically they are supposed to open a group checkin for you which is why it costs more (basically paying for an extra staff memebr). Of course they don't do this unless you have a huge group so basically it is a rip off fee!

We called Southwest as well and got the same response. We just booked online.
