Nevada-Las Vegas

Providing transportation - R/T necessary?

Hi there!  I am in the pre-engagement planning stages and just trying to figure out the costs of a destination wedding in Vegas.  We would like to have our ceremony at Mandalay Bay and the reception at Maggiano's.  Is it necessary to provide guest with round-trip tansportation to and from the reception or is just transportation to the reception enough?

I ask because I figured most people may want to continue hanging out after the resception (probably will end around 5 or 6) and I don't want to waste money on a 56 passenger bus that no one gets on.

Thanks.

I would at least provide it from Mandalay to Maggianos after the ceremony, since everyone will be headed there.

When are you thinking of getting married? We are having our wedding at the Flamingo, reception at Mandalay Bay, then doing a late-night strip tour (providing booze/ music) on a double decker bus. The bus holds 90ish people and is $135/ hour. We are doing this after the wedding since it will be July and we do not want a tour during daylight.
We originally planned to provide transportation but decided against it. People are in Vegas- as long as you stay on the strip for your ceremony and reception I think it is not asking too much for them to get themselves to those places... IMO. If you are going off-strip I'd consider providing transport.

We are getting married at Caesars and Reception at Trump. Theres a 2 1/2 hour gap between the 2 which I think is plenty of time for guests to make it down to Trump on their own so we are not providing transportation. I think you should though provide information about the monorail or shuttles because it is a looong walk. 1st timers may think "since its on the strip we will just walk it."

It would be polite to provide roundtrip transportation, but not absolutely necessary.  At the minimum, you should transport your guests from your ceremony to the reception.  If the ceremony and reception locations were closer together maybe not even then, but that's a haul.

I am just doing one way, because like you said, a lot of people will want to stay on / leave earlier. I don't want to put a finishing time on our night!

We have 2 1/2 hours between our ceremony & reception (PH & Maggiano's). We're giving our guest shuttle details etc. and are not providing transportation, we're having an hour of photography around PH after our ceremony and are planning to walk up there slowly afterwards with teh guests that want to walk... frequenting bars on the way :)

We provided a Bell Trans limo bus from our ceremony at Caesars to Maggiano's and afterward to everyone's specific hotel.  All of our guests used it except a friend that was local and had her own ride there and back.

this is something i've been thinking of as well.initially i was going to provide transport from the ceremony to the reception but i've now decided to have the double decker bus for an hour after the reception i think our guests would love seeing vegas all lit up,we will have music and alcohol as well.
we also have our children with us and my parents are taking them back to the hotel after the reception so that we could head out for some dancing so if i hire the bus it will extend the evening for them and i'll know they've got back to the hotel safely!!

The date I have in mind is 7/8/12.  We would like to do a double decker bus tour as our Meet and Greet two days before the wedding.  I am totally for bringing our guests to Maggiano's but agree with you that they can get themselves back.  Plus I don't want them to feel they have to get on the bus.  Many of my guests have never been to Vegas so they may want to explore that end of the strip after the reception.  That's my thinking anyway but I'm new to this. :)

I agree with that.  I think I'm leaning towards one-way transportation.

The idea of letting guests get themselves to the reception is tempting as it will save money and allow more time for bridal party pics on the strip. Hmmm.....

Thanks everyone for all of the ideas so far.  I think in terms of saving money, a one-way trip is the way to go since most of the guests will probably go hotel/casino/bar-hopping with us afterwards.  I will definitely include info re: trams, monorail, bus, etc. however with it being a wedding I hope people bring money for at least one cab.  Lol.

Sukie I have used Presidential b4 and booked them for our wedding day.  Their prices are very reasonable (a little over $100 an hr for a limo bus for 22 people) and they will do one way- one hour rentals, as will most transport companies in LV.

Thanks for the tip Aegrish.  I've heard good things about Presidential.

I have never been to a wedding where the ceremony and reception were in 2 different locations and they provided transportation.

Vegas is actually really easy to get around especailly the strip, so I don't think it is neccessary for you to provide transportation. If you give them like an hour, people should be able to share a cab, grab a bus, or tram and get there a-ok.

Are you talking about Destination Weddings were most of the guests will be travelling to attend, or local/hometown weddings?
