Timing and Planning

Hey All- I feel like I've accomplished a lot in the month I've been engaged, set the date, confirmed ceremony, in suite recpetion venue, catering and photog. But now its all the smaller stuff that I'm freaking out about. The dress, hair and makeup, flowers, colors (NO CLUE :) ) meet and greet, invites, cake ( Yikes, I'm stressing myself out over here)

I know the knot has some wonderful planning tools, but I feel like many of the tools don't cater to destination brides ( and if there are any, please point me in the right direction) I guess my question is with about 9 months to go, what should I tackle first? My mom never did the wedding planning thing ( destination or otherwsie), and most of my frieinds aren't married yet, so any guidance would be more than appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Hi and welcome to the board!  Congrats on all the checks you've gotten done so far.  You have plenty of time with 9 months to go so you really have no reason to stress.  In all honesty, I started planning my wedding a year in advance and realized I was jumping the gun a little in Vegas.  The hotels are used to planning shotgun weddings and ones booked only 3 months out.  Some of the things I tried booking, they wouldn't let me because it was too far out.

I would probably suggest that the next big thing to tackle would be your dress.  Depending on where you live and where you buy your dress from, they can take 6 months to come in.  Mine came in quite quickly and I've heard many other brides on here say their's came in quickly as well but I'd say better to be safe than sorry.

Other than that, you have lots of time.  Use the checklist here on TK, it's really helpful.  And of course, all us other brides are here to help as well!  Happy planning!

Y'all are great! Save the dates are being ordered ASAP. I have them picked out, just need to actually sit down and get them. Next up will definately be the dress. I think I've been watching too much "Say Yes to the Dress" bc that show and their type A brides ( not that their's anything wirng with that : ) ) making me feel a little behind!
    Thanks!

My date is in less than 8 months and I have done nothing.

Oh, nope, we bought our bands because Icing on the Ring had a sale.  That's all though.

    You'll be fine.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

I would also look at make up / hair artists as the popular ones book up fast!

Invites you may want to get started on since it's a destination and it's normal to send them out earlier than local weddings.  We're sending ours in the next two weeks (if they get done lol) for our wedding in about six and a half months; we sent save the dates early too but want to basically have another reminder for the guests to  book rooms and flights while the rates are reasonable since procrastinating for a destination wedding can mean a huge difference in price.
