Room block questions

How far in advance from your wedding did you get your room blocks?  My wedding is in August 2013 at the Bellagio, and as of today, the Bellagio's website is taking reservations through the end of July 2013.  Should I reserve the room block next month when the August 2013 rooms open up?  Or is this something I should do next winter?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Room block questions

  • I got my first block in May (a year out) and my second a couple of weeks ago. So it would be ok to do it that far in advance, I had to because I'm getting married on a holiday. Plus it'll give guests plenty of time to book.
  • we are inviting 60 people but we know that many wont actually come. We set up a block for 20 rooms but i think we should set up more

Are you inviting mostly couples? We are inviting 30 people which are all couples except my brothers (but they can share) and our kids. We have reserved 15 at each hotel to be safe.
  • I'm thinking a lot of our guests will be buying flight/hotel packages as they seem to be priced decently. We're coming from Canada and this seems to be a cheap way to go.  Would you still recommend setting up a room block for our guests at our hotel?

  • i would since it wont cost anything, With our room block the room are like $50.00 a night which might end up cheaper than flight and hotel combo thru orbitz.com or something

If you think everyone will want to stay in the same hotel then it won't hurt to set one up. Maybe compare what is offered online vs. what the hotel had discounted.
  • I agree that you should do it as early as possible.  Our wedding is 9/22 and we blocked off the rooms back in March.  Prior to that, we checked online to see what conventions were going to come up that year.  It helped us plan around the busier times of year in Vegas.  When we picked our date, we knew that there was going to be a car auction happening at the same hotel where we are getting married (MB).  But we didn't know that there was going to be a huge concert happening as well - they only announced that a few months ago.  So we were smart enough to reserve the rooms far enough in advance so as not to put a  pinch on the room situation for our friends and family.

And really, since the room hold is free, just do it and cross it off your wedding checklist!
  • Does a room block mean all your guests will be on the same floor, etc? I cant decide if I really want my in-laws and other fmaily right near us... I know it doesnt really matter, but if they are on another floor there might be less chance of them knocking on our door all the time, or hearing when we are going out and then rushing out to come along! Ide like a little bit of space!!!

  • I don't think it means all the rooms are together but you should ask when you call the hotel! Great question!
