Nevada-Las Vegas

Big Disappointment!!

Hi there!  Just wanted anyone who's even thinking of getting married at the Orleans Hotel to be very, very careful!  My fiance works for the military and is currently deployed.  He left in January and is returning at the end of March and we're planning on getting married in April.  He really wanted to participate in the decision making and planning so we needed to get everything done before he left.  We don't live in Nevada, but really wanted to get married in Vegas and honeymoon at the Grand Canyon.  We heard about the Orleans Hotel, looked into it, spoke with an event planner there, Chaz Morton, told gave him our dates, told him what we needed and to make a long story short, supposedly everything was set.  I asked him and emailed him on 3 different occasions before I sent out the invitations just to make sure and was assured that rooms and rates promised were reserved for us.  My future mil called to make reservations and the hotel never heard of us.  Promptly called Chaz, he looked into it and somewhere along the line the ball got dropped and there is no block of rooms reserved, if we still wanted rooms the prices more than doubled, etc..... and no one seemed willing to work with me (since Mike had already left at this point) to work it out.  I'm just glad to find out now and not a month before the wedding!  If you're going with the Orleans, checking 3 times isn't enough!!  Be careful!!!

Did you have contracts, anything in writing that you can fall back on?

I'm having my reception at the Orleans and everyone that I have dealt with has been great!! Sorry that you've had a bad experience.

Double checking what you have booked isn't just for the Orleans, I am double checking every place that we have booked and signed contracts for.

I agree with ebonyivory, seems like if you have a contract or something in writing you could at least get the room rates at what they were originally.  Have you talked to anyone else?  I worked specifically with Debra (catering) and 2 others in group reservations.

So sorry to hear about your experience! I had never met with Chaz. I had my welcome party and room block at the Orleans and everything went smoothly and was amazing. Hope it all gets straightened out.

Thanks for the info.  Maybe I should just start from the beginning with them and see what happens....  not really sure what to do now.

If you have the responses to your emails guaranteeing the rates, I would ask to talk to the hotel manager and tell them you insist on rates that you were told. If that fails tell them you are going to contact the parent company and get them involved. Be assertive!

I agree with MNVegas. Maybe even just showing your emails would help -- if they were detailed enough to mention the rates / dates discussed.

    For example,

"I'm just writing to verify our room block  on ______ dates, at ______ rates as agreed during our previous phone call."

At least it shows you're not making it up and that they (or their employee) is the one who dropped the ball.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Hoping for the best for you.

I do have all the emails with the agreed upon rates.  I guess I'm just afraid to push too hard and then have the staff be spiteful and everyone have a bad time.

You can be firm but polite. If you were quoted something then you should get it escpecially since your have it in writing. If you are not willing to stand up for yourself and push for it, then don't complain about paying higher amount.

I just got a $200 credit from my vacation last month. A couple of minor things bothered me, so I sent an email to the hotel manager. He sent me a letter of apology, thanked me for voicing my concerns and issued us a credit.

The Vegas economy is getting a little better, but it's still bad.  They should want and need your business.

Talk to Chaz's boss's boss (or however high up you need to go).  Call his department's main line (not Chaz's direct #) and ask until you get the right person.  I'd go as high up as you can (director, vice president even).  Provide them all the emails you have.  Say that you still want to get married there if they will honor the written details.  Give them ONE chance to come through for you.  If they won't do it, drop them.  (And if they assign someone besides Chaz to your event, even better!)

If for some reason the hotel is already sold out, you may be out of luck on the hotel rooms.  Hopefully that is not the case!

If it actually went to contract you could contact their legal department (sometimes you have to ask for the General Counsel's office).  Tell them your contract isn't being honored.  Email them a copy.  Legal will put a fire under people's booties.
