NWR:To my fellow Midwestern-ers!

Just wanted to tell everyone to be safe with this crazy storm coming.

Im in Chicago and they are expecting it to arrive around 1pm...and of course I go to work at 1130am. Upper management instructed our boss to encourage employees to bring an overnight bag and food incase we get stuck at work. I can only hope they have talked this storm up a bit and we dont get the possible 24+ inches they are talking about.

I'm in Indy and we got a good coating of ice last night and expecting more today. Everything is closed down and thousands of people in the 100 degree radius are out of power in single degree windchill temps! When will this winter end!!!! Be careful out there and keep warm!!

We got a ton of ice already, it took 30 mins for me to even begin to get it off of my car windshield. And that was with the defrost going full blast!  The roads weren't bad, it was just walking that was tricky! LOL

I am west of St. Louis in St. Charles County....heavy sleet coming down and anywhere from 10 to 20 inches on the way shortly! I will take the average and say 15! :p

I love snow! But not going out in it!

  • edited December 2011
Yup, I'm just west of Chicago and this is going to be a fun one. I'm planning on leaving work around 3pm (when they say the worst of the blizzard will start) and am really hoping the close work tomorrow. Brrr...

Milwaukee is getting hit pretty bad too! Good luck down in Chicago.

It often seems that they exaggerate snow, but I have a feeling about this one...

My work is putting people up in a hotel nearby if they have a long commute. I live about 10 minutes away, but I'm planning to leave 45 minutes early tomorrow!

I called my work to see if I can come in early..no such luck. I work in a lab in Anatomic Pathology and 3 of our hospitals (Danville, St. Elizabeth & St. Clare in Lafayette, IN for those familiar with the area) are not sending their specimens up today or tomrrow, they dont want anything stuck up here...or stuck on the roads somewhere. So my quitting time is 8pm...news said noone should be out on the roads after 6pm. Im sooo hoping people are smart and don't go and get their colonoscopies and tonsils removed today and they will send me home before it gets too bad.

Spending the night at work just does not sound appealing at all...where am I gonna sleep...on our autopsy table?

    Be safe everyone!!

Just saw the weather on the news, I didn't realize it was going to be that big of a snow storm, we're used to this crap here, but this storm sounds huge!

    Stay safe everyone!

At the hospital I work at they encouraged the day and PM shift today to bring overnight bags with at least two changes of clothes. I was scheduled to go in tonight at 11, but they are expecting all of us to call off at that time. They set up over 400 cots, and are keeping the cafeteria open. They also offer time and a half to anyone who stays. So many people are going to get stuck.

The wind is so bad I hear it just whipping around our house. Our dogs do not want to go outside. FI is a police officer... he had to go to work no matter how much I begged him to stay home.

To all of those in the affected area, good luck. If the power goes out just stay warm and throw the groceries in the snow. LOL!

My mom's dr office closed early and they started sending the nurses home based on how far of a drive they had to go. My poor sister had finals and had to drive to Rockford (from Schaumburg) and back today. She wasn't sure if they were canceling her final for tomorrow yet.

All my family is giving me $h!t b/c I said that I wanted it to snow while we were visiting. I just hope it's cleared up enough by Friday that my flight into MDW doesn't have any problems. Ben is in for quite a shock when we get in, he's not used to all that white stuff.

BTW: Just want to add that I'm super excited about going to Chicago. Ben is asking my Dad for my hand while were there. Then I get to be "offically" engaged. woohoo! It's been hard to keep it a secret this long.

We're in the NW suburbs of Chicago and we are getting hit hard with this blizzard!  The wind is howling outside and you can hear the snow hitting the windows.  Luckily I have a snow day tomorrow and I don't have to go out in this stuff...the drive home was bad enough I can only imagine how it's going to be tomorrow especially in the morning.  Stay safe and keep warm everyone!

its so bad right now. I was lucky I got out about 1 1/2 hours early but it was terrible to drive in. I was hoping they were wrong...but looks like we just might get 24+ inches. Hope everyone stays safe and warm!
