August wedding outside, am I crazy??

Hello everyone, I am getting married August 9th here in Las Vegas. My FI and I have checked out a few wedding sites on the strip, and we have been trying to find things that are a little different, if you know what I mean. We really don't want your typical chapel setting, but our funds aren't abundant either.

Last week we looked at the TI & Caesar's Palace venues. At TI you can get married on their pirate ship! And the Juno Garden at Caesar's was absolutely beautiful! I told myself I didn't want to get married outdoors in August because it is in the 100's here, but it seems the places I am liking best are outside.

For a 30 minute ceremony do you think I should compromise? Can any previous brides give testimonies at any outdoor sites in summer, or specifically at the TI & Caesar's?

I think if you are going to do August, can you do an evening ceremony? I was married in the Juno Garden at the end of September in the evening and it was still in the low 80s.  Daytime ceremony in 100 degree plus heat could be sweaty LOL.  I have not seen anyone get married on the Pirate Ship but that is a unique idea!

Yeah, The pirate ship only has 2 ceremonies open a day, an 11am or 12 noon and I am thinking as neat as the idea is, I don't think I can handle the Vegas sun at noon in a full wedding dress!!

I wanted to do the garden at Caesar's at 7pm (their latest booking) but it is already taken so I would have to do 6pm instead...

Im doing the Juno Garden in July at 3pm. Of course that exact week has been the hottest week in Vegas the last 2 years in a row now, so I'm going to die... oh well lol.

I'm not sure about those particular locations, but regarding the weather...

August is our "monsoon" season. On average, August gets the most rainfall. So that is something I might be concerned about. Along with the heat. :/

    Good luck!

You could compromise, but don't ask your guests to; standing around outside for 30 minutes in 90+ is brutal.

    But, but...it's a dry heat.

yeah, my sister got a major sunburn walking from NYNY to the Monte Carlo.  You need to guarantee shade for your guests.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

I grew up in Phoenix and spent most of my life there.  When you live in a desert, you don't go outside in the summer.  You go from your air conditioned house to your air conditioned car to your air conditioned destination.  When DH and I went to visit last summer, I was just fine in the heat, but he was miserable and ready to melt.  It can be really extreme if you're not accustomed to it.

If you're really wanting an outdoor venue, can you push back your wedding a little bit?  September shouldn't be nearly as bad.

    Yes.

If you have to go with August (or even September) I'd recommend trying to book a place from 6pm-on, since the heat will only be moderately distracting as opposed to oppressive.  Just something to keep in mind if your guests aren't used to it (and think of your poor FI/groomsmen sweating away in their suits!)

There's this rumor that Vegas is dry heat.  It's true most of the year.  But August monsoon season in particular violates that rule.  Most days in August are either rainy, or really humid heat.

So, I agree that a night-time event would be better.  I know ceremonies are short, but trust me, the heat will make them feel so much longer.

I know that a dry heat is definitely better than humid heat, but once you hit 100, it's f**king hot....

It's okay, I'm a wuss about cold.  I'm moving to KC in a couple of months, and not looking forward to my first winter there.  To me, snow is something you visit.

thanks everyone for the replies, you really did give me something to think about.

This week we looked at Emerald @ Queensridge... the ceremony still takes place outside, but the time is flexible so that we could do it after sunset! It is also right next to the building for the reception so there is no long walk to/from a casino and there are even speakers provided in the building so if anyone doesn't want to stay outside they don't have to. I am definitely thinking it is a better idea by far, I don't want to make my guests suffer!!
