Planet Hollywood Wedding

This is my first post so bear with me.  I have been doing an extreme amount of internet research and have decided that I like Planet Hollywood the best for our Las Vegas wedding.  Does anyone have experience with the hotel itself or anything wedding specific?  We have never been to Las Vegas and we are considering a scouting trip but if we can, we would rather not HAVE to go down there.  It's really difficult to justify making a decision based only on what we find on the internet but we also would like to save as much money as we can, which would mean foregoing the scouting trip.

What kind of tips can you guys give me?  Would you highly recommend scouting out the location beforehand?  I have already had really good responses from the wedding coordinating team at Planet Hollywood, so they are making me more comfortable but I'm still wondering whether or not I need to make the trip.

After I get this ironed out I will probably be back on asking more questions but this is the one that is weighing the heaviest.  I want to get our wedding booked as soon as possible so I don't have to worry about it anymore.  I want it set so I can move forward with the rest of my planning.

Help!?!?

Congrats on your first post!  I think there are a lot of brides who choose not to or are unable to do scouting trips.  Also, with all the advice and info on here you should be fine to plan without one.  Planet hollywood has great packages, and the chapel is new and they offer a lot of awesome decor options (i love the candlelit aisle covered in rosepetals) however the MAIN REASON I did not choose it was because guests have to walk through the Planet Hollywood Casino to get to the Chapel (unless they come in through the parking garage) and I was not comfortable with that since we have Grandparents and Nieces and Nephews coming.  While they will walk through casinos (probably many) during their visit to LV, I think the planet hollywood is a bit 'young' for our grandparents to have to pass through, especially right before our wedding.  Plus if 'peepshow' happened to be starting around our ceremony time, there'd be a huge line for that.  If you do not have very young or old guests though I can see how it would be a good choice.

I stayed at Planet Hollywood last winter & I loved it. I went for a girls weekend after a friend of mine graduated college and we had a lovely time there. For us it was so nice to have the mall attached (we got to do some last minute outfit shopping before a Lady Gaga show). We had a foutainview room and I cant imagine having a better view of the strip....you could see all the way to Mandalay Bay and to the volcano at the Mirage...with of course great views of the Bellagio fountains.

But like pp...it is young...evertything is like hot pink and there are times girls dancing on the table (BUT we did see about the same thing at Excalibur, Caesars & Flamingo).

But IT IS VEGAS...and if you can get over the "flippers" on the side of LV BLVD passing out escort cards....girls dancing on tables are nothing! Noone expects to go to Vegas and not see this...so in the end...its up to you & FI and what fits your needs/wants : )

I think the Planet Hollywood chapel is really pretty, and the coordinators there were really nice. They would have been a serious contender for us, but the chapel was just too small.

I don't think you need to make a scouting trip. I did, because the ceremony part was a huge concern for me. I'm glad I went, but at the same time, I've booked my reception without ever having seen the place, so it's possible! The reviews and advice here is great. And just trust your gut! I feel good about the vendors I've chosen, even though the only one I actually met with was the Flamingo for the ceremony.

Thank you so much!  With each tip I get more excited and anxious to get it booked!  We really liked the modern look and theme of Plane Hollywood.  We have a small group of friends and family coming with us and none of them would be appalled if they saw the things you guys are describing.  They are actually going to love it!  I already know that we are all going to see things in Vegas that we don't normally see being that we all live in Minnesota or Wisconsin.  :)

You all are making me feel more comfortable with booking site unseen.
    Thank you!

I booked Planet Hollywood for our wedding and for our ballroom reception!  I did a scouting trip.  You don't need to though... I just did because it was important to me to see the reception area spaces because that was our main priority for choosing a venure.  Every couple has different things that are important to them...  so depending on what you are looking for, and how picky you are will determine if you need a scouting trip.

The only prettier chapel then PH was Mandalay Bay.  I didn't choose MB because I didn't like their reception space and I wanted to have the ceremony and reception in the same location.  If I was having a reception at a different location, I would have chosen MB for sure!  The Wynn was also a close contender- their space was beautiful!  I chose PH because it had a more "young" elegant vibe to it, and Wynn had an older elegant vibe.  I wanted something more hip so we went with PH.  Their WC are fabulous- Erin rocks!!!!  My FI also had to PH because of their "red carpet experience" add on.  We are sooo excited for that and decided to have a red carpet/hollywood themed reception also!  Although I have not had my wedding YET... I know I wont be disappointed with the ceremony.  Now if I can only get the scattered catering manager to return my calls..... LOL

I was very close to booking my ceremony at PH. The deciding factor for me was March Madness. There was going to be a big event at PH on the same level as the chapel and they thankfully advised me that we might hear some robust fans during the ceremony.

The chapel looks fabulous and I love the ceremonies that I watched online especially with the candles and the rose petals. I also another brides photos from there and I loved them. Yes it is bright and pink inside the casino but it did make for some great pictures.

    GL!

PH is actually my favorite casino on the strip.  As a lot of PPs said, it's got a very modern, young, "hip" vibe to it.  While you do have to walk through the casino to get to the chapel (and when the "Party Pit" is in session at night, there are girls dancing on some of the tables and the dealers are wearing lingerie), once you get up there (it's on the second floor, which overlooks the casino floor), it's kinda secluded, which is nice.  I say go for it!  PH=fun!

Striptease doesn't start until after 8pm and I don't think PH has ceremonies starting that late so I don't think that would even be an issue.

I agree with everyone else in that a scouting trip is not mandatory.  I booked my ceremony and reception having never been to Las Vegas before, period.  My mom was nervous though, and so we just took a trip out there last weekend to check things out in person.  I would say that my venues and everything looked and felt exactly like I imagined they would.  There is nothing I would have changed after visiting there.

However, I did really appreciate the fact that I was able to "experience" the Strip and Las Vegas a bit.  I think if I had shown up 2 days before the wedding and been on the Strip for the first time, I would have been a little overwhelmed and easily distracted!!  So my recommendation would be that if you have never gone to Las Vegas before...check it out before you go (or at least arrive several days before the wedding), but otherwise a scout trip is not necessary.  Especially with all of the great advice from the brides on this message board, I think everyone does such a great job of giving detailed descriptions and pros/cons that it is easy to make decisions without visiting.

One thing you should know is that Planet Hollywood does a lot of events and conventions. I know in mid-June they have something going on, because all the up scale rooms are already booked full. And their prices that weekend of the 18th are the most expensive in the casino group they are in. They may still have room for weddings, but the rooms are going to be more expensive for you guests there.

I live here in Vegas, so it makes it easier for me to keep in the loop about the things going on. But i am getting married at the Flamingo, i love the gazebo chapel and the price isn't too bad

I've stayed at PH twice and love it. The price is good and the rooms are nice! I did scout the place for my own wedding. The reception room is large and really nice in that contemporary way. Easily can fit about 100 + guest. It is on the same level as the show and striphouse but its on the other side (far other side) so not too many outsiders starring in or you hearing them from the other side, plus you can close the door too.

We just booked our wedding at Planet Hollywood!!!!!  Other than the rooms being a little expensive (because we're there during spring break) everything is exactly what we want!  Thank you for all your input!  All of you helped me in my decision making and I can say that I will be back on this board while I do the rest of my planning.  Thanks again everyone!
