Thoughts on wearing a short dress...

I am considering wearing a short (like cocktail length short) white "wedding dress" with black, opaque tights, and cute heels.

I am not very traditional (hence the DW) so I am not a huge fan of buying a big, long, white, expensive wedding dress that I will wear once. I have never had a "vision" of my dress and the ones I have actually liked are super expensive! I don't like cheesy-looking ones, either.

Thoughts?

I long considered the idea of wearing a super fun beautiful short dress with fantastic shoes. Not even a white dress. I realized eventually though that I have long dreamed of the wedding gown and would regret it if I didn't at least look at typical wedding dresses.

But I say go for it! I was browsing Bluefly.com all the time when I was considering this idea.

I think its a fabulous idea!! This is my dress =)
I couldn't decide short or long, but once I saw this one it was perfect!
Plus I didnt want to worry about wearing a long dress around the strip.

I really wanted a tea length dress too, it seemed like such a fun look. This one was what I went looking for because I knew I wanted lace:

But once I was at the dress shops I fell in love with my dress. I thought about cutting it down to be this length but in the end I couldnt do it...and you should have seen the look on the alterations lady's face when I mentioned it :p

I say go out there and try some on. IMO you will never know without that experience...

I say go for the short dress if that's your style.  The black tights sound a little scary though.  I'm sure whatever you choose will be perfect for you.

I had thought about wearing a short dress, I think they're gorgeous and perfect for Vegas! Had I been in NYC when I started dress shopping I'd have totally tried on some by Romona Keveza... instead I was here, and when my dress and I met, it was love at first sight! I went from short dress daydreaming to 10 feet long train in record time lol

Go for it!  I also loved gribbles' dress.  I think she looked great.

I'm all for it since I am doing the same thing.  I can't justify the money for a dress when I would rather buy a new couch LOL.
And considering we're getting married in July, I think short is the only way to go.

My thoughts...Why not?!?!?  I agree with some of the other ladies though.  Go try dresses on for the experience.  In the end, you may fall in love with something totally different than your original expectations.  I know I did!

Yes, do it!  There's good chances I'll be wearing purple.  The best weddings are personalized, and that means something different for every couple.

Ditto to PP about going to try dresses on!

I was POSITIVE I was getting a short dress (even thought I was in love with a specific one at David's bridal) BUT once I was in store, and trying things on, my tune totally changed when I found "MY" dress.

I DID get a 2nd (ivory) dress to party on the strip in (post ceremony & bus tour) - I found it at Group USA.

Word! I was sure I wanted a short dress, but once I tried on a couple, I realized I looked like a little kid going to Communion or something. So, I went with something completely different.

Try things on and go from there! Good luck!
