May Brides

Okay, who's freaking out?  What are you freaking out about?  Who's calm?  Give me the deets so I can figure out if I'm being normal or not right now :)

Re: May Brides

  • Me! Me! Me!

I'm worried about the timeline for the wedidng day - I'm worried about running behind, not having enough time for pictures, how long dinner will take, will people feel the recpetion is too short....I'm worried about my luggage getting lost...I'm worried about finding bed bugs in the hotel rooms (stalking tripadvisor for reviews daily), about my guests hating the smoky casinos, I"m worried about rain for our DD bust tour & for pictures day of....I'm worried about getting a spray tan and being streaky or uneven, I'm worried our guests will want us to spend more time with them than we have planned...basically everything!

You feel better now? LOL.  Writing all that down makes me sound crazy.  I tend to worry a lot as is but this wedding has put things into serious overdrive!

  • My biggest fear is that I incorrectly booked a vendor for the wrong date.  I've double-checked and confirmed everything, but I am scared that someone won't show up.

We're leaving Wednesday morning, and I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to get everything done around the house.  It is a mess, and we're having a friend re-tile our bathroom floor while we're gone, so I want the house spotless.  I'm not working tomorrow, but have lots of errands to run.

Oh, and I am very sad about leaving our dogs for five nights.  :(

  • Whew, okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one!  I'm sorry you guys are worried, too.  (And I'm sorry about the pups, eas!)

I have a tendency to take out my borderline OCD on other things when I get stressed about life.  So I keep worrying today that I didn't lock my car doors in the parking ramp at work.  I'm so tempted to go out to check them, even though I'm SURE I locked them.

On the wedding front, I had to pick out escort cards today because my DIY project went awry.  (I KNEW I shouldn't DIY!)  I freaked out last night but found someone on etsy who can do a rush order.  I freaked out initially about the Cosmo photos thing, but then emailed the Neon Museum to see if we can get in to take pics there.  I spent 2 hours buying no-contract cell phones for our Canadian guests yesterday and it was exhausting.  I'm worried that people are going to need a lot of guidance when they get out to Vegas, when we're going to be busy running errands for the wedding.  I'm worried I won't get a lot of time to relax.

I have to do a BUNCH of things before I leave for Canada on Saturday (eek!), but we'll also have about 5 days to get last minute stuff done before Las Vegas.  And I'm on vacation starting Saturday through the end of the month, so hopefully I get everything done :)
  • ETA: Caper - have you heard of bed bugs lately at NYNY??  I think you should be fine if you just do a thorough check when you get into the room (which we plan to do, too).  Just make sure to leave your suitcases in the bathroom while you check!  Someone put their bag onto their bed and then complained they got bed bugs in all 5 rooms they switched to :P  Hey, buddy, you carried them :P
  • I'm oddly serene considering I'm 2 and a half weeks out.  I don't know, I guess I just feel like I've planned enough and whatever happens now, happens.  Who knows, maybe I'll freak out a week from now.
  • Im giggling at you girls! Stop freaking out--you're all going to be fine,...AND beautiful!!!

PS--bed bug advice from someone who stays in hotels for a living: Simply lift the sheets and look at the matttress, and especially in cording/edges of the mattress. If you see lots of little black spots--those would be bed bugs. Call the front desk ASAP. If you're still paranoid...Bed bugs do not like lavendar. So, if possible get a travel size bottle of something lavendar and spray the bed (I use Lavendar Fabreeze when Im on the road) Just spay the bed. IF, on the SLIM chance that you have them...they wont want to come out. And as NY Cheryl said...dont leave your suitcase on the bed!

  • I am trying (unsuccessfully) to not freak out. Most of the stuff that is bothering me is centered around FI and his guests. His family is driving me batty with all these unreasonable things (IE- his brother is insisting on bringing his 2 LARGE dogs which I am pretty sure the hotel he booked at, though pet friendly, is not going to allow. And we are paying for his family's hotels). One of his friends has also decided he is going to crash, and possibly bring more friends. Just bc it is Vegas doesnt mean anyone can come! There were formal invites people!

On the bedbugs front- I work in the hotel industry and stay in hotels quite a bit. I will ditto what stewy said- check the mattress (towards the head of the bed is best) and the drawers on the nightstand. And leave your luggage on a non carpeted area until you check!

  • As another bed bug tip (we had them at my work and we did this CONSTANTLY to get rid of them): use rubbing alcohol (just the kind you buy at the store but I think it has to be like the 90% kind) and spray your stuff, the bed, everything down. Bed bugs hate the alcohol so they won't go near it. You smell it for awhile but then it evaporates. Spray the bottom of your shoes too! They are nasty little creatures.

  • I'm a health inspector and deal with bed bug issues all the time. The job has made me slightly paranoid about many things - try eating at restaurants after you've spent all day writing up infractions :s.  I've been checking hotel rooms, pulling off sheets, shaking headboards and drawers for years.  No reports of bed bugs @ NYNY that I can find - www.bedbugregistry.com - good news :) but I always check - my bags stay in the hall with my FI until I give the all clear LOL.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who worries about bed bugs :)  These are great tips, too!!  Thanks, all!!

Thanks, Stewy, for trying to keep us all calm :)  This would be a much more fun conversation if we were all in the same room with some margaritas in hand.

And bb - wedding crashers suck.  You should tell your coordinator not to let them in (half kidding) :P
  • I am freaking out because there's really nothing left to do at this point.  I have a DOC (bringing her from the Bay Area) and she's taken over all vendor communication as of about 3 weeks ago, so I'm left to twiddle my thumbs.  And being the control freak that I am, that's difficult for me.

So basically, I am freaking out that there's (seemingly) nothing to freak out over.
  • I think having a DOC may be a great idea!  I'm sure it must be tough to not have control over everything though.  :)

OMG.... so now I'm worried about bed bugs! lol oh man... I shivered when I read the posts above. Yuck!

I'm worried that my hair and make up is not going to be done on time (along with my MOH, my mom and my MIL) and that we run out of time for photos...  I'm also worried about sweating and or crying and the make-up coming off in streaks down my face... eek!

I know the day of, I'll be more relaxed and it's like klstalin said above - what happens happens...  but for now trying to make sure all the little things are done and organized so when I'm a few days out from leaving I'm not scrambling and driving fl crazy... hahaha

    Hooray for May brides!! :)
  • Congrats & Good Luck to all the May brides!!  It's crazy how fast this year of wedding planning went by.

Everything is pretty much set for the wedding, I'm not really freaked out over anything.  But we are definitely still experiencing minor hiccups:

-My best friend from high school told me yesterday that she was broke so she was only going to come to the ceremony.  I convinced her to crash in our 2nd bedroom (we booked the Marquis Suite at the Platinum) so that she could be apart of the reception and after-dinner festivities.

-I still haven't seen my completed wedding dress, but my aunt is making it and she has been making dresses for me since I was 14 so I'm not really stressed out about that. She knows my measurements better than anyone!  I'll be spending about 5 hours with her this Saturday so she can finish the final fit and detail work.

So now it's just a matter of picking up our formal wear and packing up our bags.  I've been fortunate that everything has fallen into place with the wedding planning.

It's so exciting that it is finally our turn!!!  Can't wait to see everyone's photos and reviews!
  • Mar - are you having your makeup done professionally?  If so, you shouldn't have to worry about streaks :)  But it can't hurt to have makeup for touch-ups and extra tissues nearby!

Sduran - I can't wait to see your dress!  That's so sweet that she's making it for you.  :)

My soon to be sister-in law is doing our hair and my makeup. She's a professional hair stylist and has been doing my hair for years and we did a makeup trial a couple of weeks ago and WOW - I looked 10 years younger! BAM!  I'm just not used to that much makeup.. so I'm just worried if I cry I'll mess it up... she laughed and told me she's going to show me how to "dab" the corners of my eyes.  I'm a boring makeup person... foundation, eye liner, mascara & lip balm... hahaha.. I know everything will be fine... it's just one of those things that I worry about.. haha silly I know.
  • I TOTALLY understand.  I usually only wear eye make-up (no foundation), so I'm worried about all that, too.  It's so cool that you already like how you look in the make-up!  I can't wait for my trial :)
